well, i did a little test and i have same problem as you have.
I reencode your video example and it is ok now = file is wrongly encoded...

i see. If this discussion is not allowed in this forum feel free to delete this paragraph. However, the file is not an actuall hd-rip that i´ve done myself, it´s downloaded from.. Well, somewhere. Althou i´ve have had this problem with at least 3 or 4 downloaded files (of 6 - 7 total). So i guess it´s fairly common that files are wrongly encoded then?

Since i had the exact same problems (and some working movies) with catalyst 8.11, then i guess it can do no harm to upgrade from 8.5 again, since the dxva worked just the same for me in both versions. Is it something universal that 8.10-11 etc. Never does dxva correctly or is this just some times/under some speciell conditions?

Also, how did you reencode the file? I guess i could try the same.

Looks like we're having the same issues then. I have the same ratio with downloaded files. 8.10 DID NOT work for me, but 8.11 is working similar to 8.5, so all is good so far!

When using XVID4PSP; I've been choosing MKV format, denoise = disabled, brightness/contrast = disabled, video encoding = x264 Q21 Turbo, audio encoding = copy

it's universal that 8.6 catalyst drivers broke dxva. We believe that has been fixed in 8.11. At least it works for me now.

DXVA will stop working all by itself, no reason to deactivate it. If your pc can handle those files without acceleration it's not an issue. See above for how to reencode video files with XVID4PSP.

MPC just drops back to ffmpeg decoder (similar to ffdshow) if DXVA won't work.

A lot of people have it working in 8.8 as well, 8.6 and 8.7 were just really c**p.

DXVA will stop working all by itself, no reason to deactivate it. If your pc can handle those files without acceleration it's not an issue. See above for how to reencode video files with XVID4PSP.

But when I play the files that are not encodec to work with DXVA in either Media Portal or MPC HC, DXVA is still being activated = the movie gets artifacts/big pixels. My PC can handle the files with only CPU-power, but since I want to be able to play 1080p material DXVA is needed.

If you don't need dxva I would just turn it off. or re-encode the files. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but unless you change the file type to something else, I don't think you can automate this. i chose to re-encode the files that didn't work right. They're working great now!

I haven't tried it myself but it sounds like xvid4psp can fix errors that might be causing your problem. Do you have the artifacts problem with just some downloaded files using DXVA or with clean files as well (i.e. 480p/720p/1080p trailers dlded from apple)?

Just tried reencoding the movie in question with xvid4psp and it worked great with DVXA enabled. This is however a pretty time-consuming process, guess a full 1080p movie will take several hours (guessing 4-6 h) to encode. I for example have the entire Lost Season 4 in 720p-format. And all (!) of the episodes just shows a black screen (sound playing fine) when I have DXVA enabled, without it, they play just fine. I´m reencodeing one episode as I write this, and I guess it will play nicely after the encoding is done. Never the less, reencoding all my movies/serie-episodes to make them work with DXVA is a huge process, that I do not find to sexy.

Does anybody know what the deal is with picture just getting black?
Will try some of the trailers in a secound jo16v!
