Hello,

On my MediaPortal system (V. 1.0.2), most things (music, dvd, ripped dvd's, television) work fine.
I used to watch BluRay movies on a stand-alone player, but would really like to rip them and play them from MediaPortal.
I rip my BluRays using AnyDvdHD and Clown BD. The movies are ripped to ISO-files, containing the main movie, soundtrack and subtitles (Danish and/or English).

On my other computer I can mount the ISO-files and watch the rips on PowerDVD with no problem.

On MediaPortal, I have AC3filter installed for 5.1 sound using S/Pdiff and Daemon Tools Lite. I am also using the plugin called Moving Pictures. I don't have any external players (like PowerDVD) installed.

My question is now: If I install SAF (unlocked), will I be able to watch my BluRay rips using MediaPortal?
And secondly, should I use internal or external player? (if external, which one?)

I have tried to read through this thread, but I am seriously suffering from information overflow. I am enormously confused about codecs, what to use and what not to use.
My MediaPortal rig has an Intel P4-3.0ghz CPU and I am using an ATI4650 display adapter. For me, it doesn't really matter if the cpu is at 10% or if it is at 60% - as long as my movies play fine and I get no stuttering. (CPU at 100% would be an issue though).

I am sorry if this question has been asked a thousand times already, but there are just too many pages with information to get a usable overview being codec-challenged as I am

You will need external player to play BluRay/ BluRay rips in MP with menus, but you can play m2ts files directly in MP.

Obviously, I own a PowerDVD9 license, so that part is not a problem.

Does that mean that I don't even have to install SAF?
I apologize for my stupid questions, I am just nervous that installing one thing, will break another

If your PDVD9-Version is previous to the 1701, then you need not to use SAF, this codecs are availible in Mediaportal!

Later versions are closed for other players.

But one thing I don't know: In SAF you have the PDVD9-codecs integratet, but I don't know if you can install the same codecs two times?!?

My version of PowerDVD9 is 9.0.1719 - does that eliminate using PowerDVD as an external player to MediaPortal?

If not using PowerDVD, can I use MPC-HC as an external player for BluRay rips? Or is there another smart solution available?

Blu-Ray-Rips are working with MPC-HC, but some Blu-Rays have over hundreds of video-files, such BDs are only playable with PowerDVD or other BD-Players!

1719 is too high. In this version the codec is disabled!


PowerDVD could be used in every Version in MediaPortal! See here!

But you cannot use the codecs for liveTV, DVDs or Videos, this is only availible in versions prior to 1701a!

When you say "some bluray rips have over hundreds of video-files..." are you thinking of the m2ts files?
The rips I create with Clown BD have somewhere between 4 and 6 m2ts files (they are created with a maximum of 4GB file size). So I hope that would not be a problem?

Sorry to keep asking questions, but to use MPC-HC as an external player, I would install SAF and set MPC-HC as the external player for BluRay in Moving Pictures plugin configuration, right?

I *think* I am starting to understand the concepts but it is still very confusing.

I don't know Moving Pictures so there I can't help you!

So 4 to 6 m2ts-files would not be the problem... I have a BD Terminator there are 500 m2ts files in a cofused order, only a program such PowerDVD can play this BD!

After a Rip with AnyDVD it's working in MPC-HC!

You can use PDVD, but remember to install SAF as last one.

Is anyone finding that the multiple instances of Haali issue is back in SVN 24553? ie. can't play a second mkv file?
