Why would MPA being installed cause a problem with AC3filter if you select AC3filter in MP? I thought filters were only used if you had them selected. Did you check your graphs?
If the merits are messed up or not quite as they should be then weird things happen- i.e. they are messed up on my system so I get ffdshow AND mpc showing up for video in the same graph (and hence no picture on h.264).

I am happy with MPA decoder, but i will add Yes/No option to install it.

BTW - did you check graphstudio and audio decoder filter? Was MPA in use?

I am sorry to break in here, but I have never been able to get a graph drawn in either Graphedit or graphstudio. I have MP in a window, start a movie, but nothing is happening when I choose to connect a graph. Theere is a dialog which has one process showing in it. I then want to connect to that, but no graph is showing like I often see in this thread.

What am I missing here?

Well, this can happend when video is decoded by different video decoder then MPC-HC. I saw this with RealMedia installed. Check if you dont have Real/Quicktime/Nero and similar software installed on your system.

If you are running Vista, you may need to install and register 'proppage.dll' - Google 'graphedit proppage.dll vista' for instructions/downloads.

I'm running xp and have switched between MPA and AC3filter all the time and it's always accurate in Graphedit. My understanding was that merit would only come into play if you were leaving things to chance, like running MPC without forcing external codecs, etc. The only time I've run two similar video codecs was with pdvd and mpc. Otherwise I follow "Hoborgs Law of codecs", don't install them unless absolutely necessary. :)

Even if you select a codec in mediaportal config others can still get used because of the merits- sometimes apps such as realplayer and nero can mess with them which is probably what caused my problem.

I thought MP had some magic way of forcing the codecs to be used. Good to know! Thanks.

    I Found The Problem!!

I have posted a few times about the stuttering have been experiencing with HD material and this pluign and I have finally found the issue. It is all caused by VSFilter! If I have it enabled it will automatically load whenever the movie has subtitles available with is killing the hw acceleration even if I am not viewing the subs. I confirmed this with graphedit. If I disable it I will get an error when I try and play the file about not having a renderer for the sub file but the movie will play fine with 10% CPU usage. The subtitles are all embedded in the MKV file and seem to make VSFilter load no matter what I do unless its disabled.

I would like to know if there is a way to make VSFilter only load if I choose to use the subs. I have tired everything I can think of. I have tired to disable it during the install of the filters and then set it to use it in the mediaportal postprocessing settings with the same outcome. I assume there could be no fix for this but any help would be appreciated. I always knew subs would break DXVA but I assumed that would only happen if they were displayed. Most of my movies have subs so this is a big problem. For the moment I have to use CoreAVC.

We all are waiting for solution.
I can see a way it MP subtitle plugin, which will read subtitles from "null renderer" filter and display subtitles as OSD in MP (like volume info), so DXVA will be working.
    But i am not coder.

Right now, SAF is configured to load VsFilter only when video have subtitles. If you want to disable them, you need to turn them OFF durning SAF instalation process or in Haali configuration.

The perfect solution doesn't exist. If you want HD video + subtitles, you simply need powerfull CPU right now.

I had this same issue, so I used mkvmerge to remove all the subs from my files. :)
