I think I will stick to CoreAVC for now, it plays everything fine for me now on my current processor and I have a new one on the way that should handle the load even better. I am still interested in DXVA and will be keeping an eye on the developments.

    Well done!

Have installed SAF3.12 and much better result - most video nows plays in Media portal (at long last!). Some HD films stil don't work but they work fine externally in WMP (eg the Underworld full HD sample from Dave's Trailer Page: U) but otherise most videos now work. 1 minor side effect - my MPV Decoder option has been lost from MPEG decoding, just selected the hauppage one that comes with my TV card and alls well.

Many thanks for the time & effort - much more pleased with MP now esp as DXVA does now work.

Only 1 annoyance left to crack & that is .mov files (from my Panasonic TZ5 camera in 720 format) - they play on MPC but not on WMP or MP (MP just refuses to try, WMP I get sound but no video).

did you install quicktime alternative? Also, try it in mp and check your graph with graphstudio.

No, it plays the file in the original resolution.

Can anybody explain to me diference between resizing and upscaling?

Theoreticaly there is no problem to add resize postprocessing filter, but this will definitly kills DXVA.

Technically, if you take a dvd and play it on a HTPC and set your output resolution to something greater than the dvd, you're performing upscaling. This filter doesn't really do that by itself, it's just a function of htpc. I grabbed all my video files in 720p or 1080p, although more than likely I'll be outputting 720p to my barco graphics 808.

Can you post small piece of not working video file?

    EDIT:
If you have problem to play *.MOV files correctly, try to rename *.MOV -> *.MKV and try it again.
It should be working fine now.

    With regards my MOV problem.

I have reinstalled the quicktime alternative but that made no difference. It does work fine in MPC.

Graphedit does not see a graph from MP but I can open the files direct to test which I will try later, similarly I'll try changing to MKV to see if that makes any odds (similar to what others have said though that is a good test but not practical on an ongoing basis) & I can certainly post a "small" file if that doesn't lead me in the right direction for getting MOV working properly.

    Thanks

Some Quicktime movies are in SVQ3 format so they don't work with DXVA.

öhm maybe my question is a little stupid but i am not sure if i have understand everything the last 47 pages - so i ask :D

is that cool-codec SAF solution only for 780G based systems?

i have ONE HTPC with that board - but my "main-HTPC" in the livig room is NOT a 780G based one.

    that has a ATI HD3470 sapphire fanless and a BE4850e AM2+ with WinXP SP3
    (the case has a own 6.3" TFT so i needed a Dual-View-able VGA-out grafic-solution)
