Has somebody an idea of why the following very often happens?:

I sometimes am loosing my configuration, that means that I cannot watch some of my movies and videos:

If I uninstall and install again SAF only, nothing changes. I need also to uninstall Haali MediaSplitter, then install it again and SAF again and everything works fine.
When I cannot see any video, I am not surprised, I just follow the above steps, it then always works but this is curious: what does that, and why? How to avoid it?

XP, NVIDIA 5800, Pentium IV, 1Go memory

Im having trouble with stuttering and tearing when playing back xvid. The tearing is at the top of the screen (horozontal) and the stuttering is like missed frames every so often with moving objects 'jumping' from one position to another with no interim animation.

I have killed off 'cool and quiet' and have no additional settings switched on in catalyst. To test if the problem was related to MP/codecs, I ran some stuff last night in VLC and it was ok.

Ive been messing around with theis for a few days and cant seem to get anywhere with it. Im using Vistax86 and gpu is a 4550 radeon. CPU is an x2 5200, so the hardware is up to the task. Interestingly it plays 1080p fine. the problem is just with xvid avi's

Can anyone suggest anything re SAF that might be causing this problem?

    I didn't think so.
Make sure you enabled Aero in Vista and vSync in Ati Catalyst.

Can be EVR issue too, try VMR9 in MP config.

    Thanks Hoborg

I Enabled Aero. (Had it switched off as it was playing havoc with VNC, but will look into VNC issue and leave it on as per your advice). I Was not able to locate any vsync setting in catalyst (current build). Went through the settings 3 or 4 times but couldnt see anything.

Tried VMR9 but video wont play in MP with it selected. (hit play, screen blanks to desktop, back to MP, then nothing)

Is there something I need to set up other than the VMR9 radio box in MP for it to work?

VSync is "verticle refresh" under 3D> All Settings in Catalyst- set this to always on and that should fix the tearing.

Hello, just want to ask - is there any special reason that you are using Vista? Vista is not very good choice fot HTPC...

    Exactly.

    NOTE:
Yesterday i upgrade my GPU to Ati4550, so next SAF release will be optimalised for this GPU.

Here is DXVA compatible example: http://hobring.ic.cz/HDV_0091.zip
CPU usage should be under 10%.

THX! Your file works fine! With about 5% CPU usage.

So I have to look how my other testfiles were encoded.
Which tool should I use for it so the infos were useful for you?

Why you changed your graficcard? Is there another problem with the HD3200?

I have bought exactly the same card, but I won't keep it because I'll get only Bob & Weave on 1080i with this card on Vista x64. The picture quality with my Radeon 3200 + Phenom is better.

A bit off-topic, but if you need alternative remote desktop (VNC) software, try TeamViewer - TeamViewer - Free Remote Access and Remote Desktop Sharing over the Internet - it's free for home use, and can be run in 'use LAN connections only' mode to keep everything inside the local network. I use version 4 on Vista - there is an option in the settings to turn Aero off temporarily if required.

Can you explain why that is the case- are the x64 Vista drivers not yet optimised for the 4550?

There are a couple of threads at AVS Forum and Missing Remote talking about the 4350 & 4550 performance.

As far as I can see, the general verdict (at least for 32bit XP and Vista) is that 1080i vector-adaptive deinterlacing works on the 4550 but not on the 4350 (presumably due to memory bandwidth issues on the 4350 - DDR2 versus DDR3) provided that there is only one display connected.

I can't say why. With Aero on you'll get only Bob & Weave for H264-acceleration on Vista x64. Without Aero it works. But without Aero Mediaportal does not run well (tearing...). In the German forums some other guy had the same experience. He bought a Radeon 4650 now and that works well it seems.

And also: The Radeon 4550 still gives you a flickering gui, the 4650 not (I asked him).
