I can't say why. With Aero on you'll get only Bob & Weave for H264-acceleration on Vista x64. Without Aero it works. But without Aero Mediaportal does not run well (tearing...). In the German forums some other guy had the same experience. He bought a Radeon 4650 now and that works well it seems.

And also: The Radeon 4550 still gives you a flickering gui, the 4650 not (I asked him).

So it looks like Aero is somehow sucking the power out of the GPU and leaving less processing power to do the deinterlacing? Did you ever try disabling aero and setting vertical refresh to always on as this seems to fix the the tearing issue for me in XP?

Disabling Aero and setting vertical sync to always on does not help to get rid of the tearing in Mediaportal. So that is not an option. If you use Vista you really need a card that supports the higher deinterlacing modes with Aero on. A Radeon 3200 + Phenom is enough.

Well, Phenom price is hight, and 4core CPU for HTPC? Why? That is waste of money. So i choosed GPU upgrade.

I'd agree (and it doesn't need much tuning) - I get much smoother video playback with Vista than I've ever managed with XP.

If you want good 1080i deinterlacing and no MP GUI flickering, try an nVidia 9500GT card (unless you need multi-channel HDMI audio).

Are developers counted as well? Vista works here without a single issue on my main HTPC. But that's off topic...

Well, Phenom price is hight, and 4core CPU for HTPC? Why? That is waste of money. So i choosed GPU upgrade.

My BE-2300 is fast enough I think! So why should I upgrade to a phenom?
