There are plan to add Blue-Ray support in to MP in feature, so PowerDVD will be no longer needed.
If you want to use PDVD + SAF, you can remove registry entry "hkLocalMachine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{2BF2E31F-B8BB-40A7-B650-98D28E0F7D47}\" ident "DisplayVersion".

PDVD will be no longer detected by SAF.

I think native BD support will need quite some time especially with menus and all that stuff - if this will be supported at all. So PowerDVD 8 is mandatory for many BD users for the time being.

I have installed SAF 3.42 - it also doesnt want to install when AC3Filter is present which I have installed for good reasons. I really like your work at SAF and appreciate it, but you shouldn't patronize the users by saying what they are allowed to install. A warning (no support etc.) would be enough.

You do not have problem using AC3 filter + SAF? I had, mostly both MPA -> AC3 filters was added to graph - this mostly cause problems. (audio are docoded twice).
Please check your graph.

Just curious, what's the problem with running SAF and PowerDVD8 at the same time?

I did notice that PowerDVD8 installed some xvid codecs, that I manually had to unregister.

I have a AMD Athlon 5000x2 with a Asus 780G board.

Try to start problematic video and check CPU usage. If usage is around 90%, audio/video desync it possible.

Just ran the video and the highest CPU usuage recorded was 84%. It usually hovers around 50% - 75%, only hits the 80s when it spikes.

Could it be the CPU bottleneck?

Yeah, your cpu is spiking. If you're running DXVA your cpu should be below 10%. That would mean the video is improperly encoded and need to be reencoded. I've found this is the case with over 50% of the mkv's I download from the web.

All is writen here. To test DXVA use MPC-HC player.
To reencode use xvid4psp software.

Your example is not DXVA compatible. You need to reencode it.

From what i have seen, is that MPA gives stuttering on SPDIF DTS output, with DXVA enabled so cpu is not the problem. ffdshow or ac3 filter gives correct output. Does MPA encode wmv-hd audio to 5.1?
Besides all this i am using Reclock as audio renderer and for that also AC3Filter is needed. Maybe it is possible to include Reclock into the SAF package?

MPA is terrible.. It doesnt support DTS passthrough, for that you need ffdshow or AC3filter// Also you cant speed up the sound if you have sync problems.. All in all it is not flexible as with Ac3filter you can adjust allmost everything, which sometimes is needed for sometimes weardly reencoded video's. For people that want to use passthrough to HDMI Audio output, MPA is out of the question.

I have only these decoders on my Vista HTPC, and I can litterly play everything, with or without hardware accelleration (BTW, DXVA is not allways better.. in the past I used the x1250, on which DXVA was worse then using the CPU, certainly with HD material.. who cares if the load is 60 or 70% if the output is brilliant, why not!).. ok what I use:

PowerDVD8 Ultra, a must for HDDVD and Blue Ray, codecs for HD-TV (live) and DVD are the best I have found, CoreAVC I have tried, but was not as good as PowerDVD (lip sync problems).

ffdshow video decoder, for some weardly reencoded MP4 or MKV files I have, merit set very low, to prevent from unwanted loading.

ffdshow audio decoder, I have to use it as a post process when playing HD WMV files to get 5.1 sound, while playing the WMV I have to enter the decoder settings and turn on the Dolby Decoder (leave it on and the next WMV wont start!). This is a big disadvantage of Vista, I know, but the other pro's for Vista out weigh this disadvantage by far. (In Vista the WMA 5.1 audio over SPDIF support has been dropped, unclear why.. have searched the internet for solutions, but there doesnt seem to be a simple solution available..very, very stupid move of Microsoft).. AC3filter does not allow to change filter settings while a mocie is playing, that is why I use ffdshow for this. For all aother files I use Ac3filter

Matroska filter, for the MKV support, haali splitter and VSfilter for the subs

AC3 filter For the AC3 and DTS passthrough to SPDIF and excellent real time encoding to AC3 if required.

the free quicktime player, for the few MOV files and Xvid for the Divx/Xvid and AVI support.

and that is all I have, and I can play everything

If someone knows a way to play WMV-HD files with AC3/DTS 5.1 (over SPDIF) inside Mediaportal without to hassle with ffdshow, that would be great. I still do not understand why that doesnt work anymore in Vista, it used to work great in XP.. dont say I have to go back to XP, because there is more then Mediaportal that I need Vista for

Well, I think SAF + AC3Filter wil do just fine to play everthing I need... (Ok.. I don't have any bluray or HDDvD discs..)
And when I come a cross a movie which has trouble playing.. I'll just get the version which does play well..

Sorry but most of us here don't have cpu's fast enough to run 1080p video at 70% cpu without problems. How about a p4 3ghz? That's why alot of us use SAF, to get dxva running on older hardware.

Im using SAF + ac3 here too for spdiff dts/ac3 passthrough. This works great here. And I agree MPA sucks for that.
