I've had issues with other file types, but mkv's work great, so I've re-encoded most of my stuff to mkv's too.

Yes, that could work with the .avis I have in my hard disks, but what would I do with the zillion CDs and DVDs already recorded?

Xvid is part of SAF becouse postprocessing = better picture quality.

Well, when I see the properties for Xvid all postprocessing options are disabled by default... but anyway it's your package and your decision so if Xvid is there must be because of a good reason. All I wanted to know was if it was there on purpose or if it remained from a previous installation in my computer that I couldn't uninstall. So I guess I'll have to find out why Xvid is performing so bad and only since a few days. Yesterday I tried to watch an .avi that I watched a few days ago without problems and shows the issue too. I don't remember installing anything but it's obvious I must have done something...

All Xvid postprocessing are on by default after SAF instalation, at last should be.

Are you sure the broadcast signal is not in h.264?
Try to rename - only for test - "CLVsd.ax" in your windows/system32 folder to "CLVsd.axa" - this will disable PDVD MPEG2 decoder.

Yes. DVB-T standard according to which signal is coded is H.264 (Communications Regulatory Authority - Digital Terrestrial TV). But it doesn't mean that these are High Deffinition It just digital... Or if H.264 is used it is necessary HD?

Is your suggestion regarding renaming of this CLVsd.ax (removing PDVD codec) still valid after this my repply? I mean is it still reasonable to try to do that?

So if MP is not suited to watch DVB-T television coded with H.264 - what should I use so I could try my laptop digital TV tuner? I need to know if it is broken or not (so I could get my warranty)

MP is ready for HDTV, but MPC-HC (used in SAF) decoder doesn't work with MP TS reader = you need to use different h.264 (comercial) decoder like Cyberling, CoreAVC, etc...).

Well, you can try to rename it and try it. If didn't work, just rename it back. This will not harm your system in any way.

Thanks, hoborg, again. I've tried that, but it didn't helped. I even tried to whach tv via Windows Media Portal (i've succeeded to locate all the channels using "norway" region )) But I still got sound - no picture. It looks like the problem could be in the week signal or maybe some drivers or hardware malfunction... I'll address now to HP...

H.264 doesn't have to be just for HDTV, in New Zealand (and maybe Lithuania) H.264 is also used for SDTV. You will need the Cyberlink H.264 codec which you get from the PowerDVD trial if you want to use DXVA and reduce CPU usage.

Split your video by MKV merge and post small example!
