Right all OK except when I try and play xvid files that I have. Graph says that ffdvideo is in use but I get the usual mosaic blocks when using wmr9. Using evr does work but then when I view other files (HD mp4 / mkv) then MP freezes at 100% load (unlocked SAF)

Tried mkvmerge but still same error.

Am I missing something?

Log attached http://www.watkinson.me/SAF-Log.txt

Try to update drivers (complete uninstall - restart - install - restart)

...and you are not happy with MS decoder?

Well I want to control how it works. And yes I think MPC does a better job sometimes.

After some more research on this matter, it seems to have to do with a new way IC (inteligent connect) works out it's graphs in windows 7. It has to do with a regkey called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred

For more info see this link which explains how to do it manually: Replacing the Default DTV/DVD Decoder without Breaking Live TV Playback

After fiddleing arround with this. I reinstalled SAF. And it looks like it changes some registry values of the Prefered key. But maybe it did not work before because of the rights that are required (TrustedInstaller only).

What do you think?

If i am not wrong in Win7 x64 RTM i have this key didnt requaired TrustedInstaller only...
I have no idea how to modify SAF to change rights :(((

Hi Hoborg,

Maybe it's possible to included this tool in the SAF installer for win7. Then you don't have to worry about modifying rights.
Tool for changing preferred DirectShow filters in Windows 7 - Doom9's Forum

The tool should be adjusting the permissions automatically by giving the Administrators group the ownership and full access.

Thanks for SAF again great product!

Hi Hoborg,

I used to use AC3Filter for the TV and Video section to make hdtv/mkv/dvd use DTS/AC3 passthrough and to decode MPEG2 audio streams. All worked perfect, but not for online videos. So I looked into SAF.
After installing SAF (the latest beta) for the first time according to your instructions on the first post, I lost all audio (accept in most online videos)! :( Sometimes with a freezing MP (until you hit the stop button twice, that makes the video that apparently plays, stop)

GraphStudio learned me that the videostreams (mkv/hdtv/sdtv) get picked up nicely by the Cyberlink decoders, but the audio does not get attached to ffdshow (or any other codec for that matter)...
How can I make sure the audio pin gets connected to ffdshow, and it in turn gets attached to the default directsound device?
Could you, or anyone else that has his SAF audio codecs working nicely, help me out with a pm, screenshots, configs, etc. Anything could help! I'd really, really appreciate it! :)
:D

Fist of all try to reinstall SAF and not install or configure anything else.

 :D Ok, that helped for one part...All video's I've tested so far have audio/video! Great! ...but I still don't get SPDIF passthrough for AC3 sound. I do have sound, but just normal stereo, no SPDIF (AC3 DD 2.0, 5.1, DTS, etc) is passed through to my receiver. Ticking the AC3 and DTS box on the OUTPUT tab of ffdshow audio configuration to use SPDIF passthrough breaks the audio.
I used to have great SPDIF passthrough before SAF, when I used AC3filter so it should be possible on my system :)
How do you (Hoborg) and other people have set up their SAF codecs to enable good AC3 passthrough?
Suggestions...anyone? :)

This tool (there are a few) seem to take ownership of the key (administrator) and modify the ACL of the key before they modify the data. Maybe this could be included in the new version of SAF?

What I cannot figure out is why MP's settings for the codecs do not overrule the created graph. This should have still worked in my oppinion.

Thank you for all the effort and info Hoborg (and all other contributers here).

ps. I am running a clean installation of Windows 7 32bit RTM Ultimate edition.

:D

found someone else do this:
SetACL.exe -ot reg -on "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred" -actn setowner -ownr "n:Administrators;s:n"
SetACL.exe -actn ace -ace "n:Administrators;p:read, full;s:n;i:io,so;m:grant;w:dacl" -rec yes

Yes, I have an integrated nvidia 9300.

Thank you very much for all what you're doing.

nVidia cannot decode VC-1 using DXVA, that is why i am asking.
What OS do you have? Use graphstudio to check what filter is in use.

My OS is Windows XP Evolite. I'm trying to use graphstudio but because of not being able to play the file, graphstudio can't show what filter is in use. What do I have to configure in MP for avoid DXVA with VC-1 files?

Thank you very much.

I've opened the mkv with graphstudio and the filter in use is Nero. I have configured the next graph:
Haali -> WMVideo Decoder DMO -> ffdshow MPEG4 Video Decoder -> Video Mixing Renderer 9
With this configuration it works, but not fluently. I have an E5200 Dual Core. I think is enough for play 1080p, isn't it?
Why all these problems with this kind of files? How can I configure the system and MP for a fluently play even without DXVA?
Sorry for all my doubts but I'm a beginner with codec issues.

Thank you very much

I've previously used SAF 3.47 with MP 1.0.2 successfully on my old P4 system. Now I'm trying to use SAF 4.00rc1 with MP1.1rev23491 on my new Phenom II X3 720/HD3200 (cat 8.11) IGP system and not having much luck

First, DVD playback using the Cyberlink decoder (v8.4.0.205) displays the video in the wrong ratio/zoom (basically not filling the screen). I can't right-click to bring up MP's menu to access the Zoom modes as the GUI comes up behind the video, so is not visible. I can press S to change through the ratios, but the MP GUI that comes should come up at the bottom is similarly obscured by the video, so I can't see what mode it's in (except for Original, when the video is so small it doesn't cover the GUI). Playing the DVD in MPC-HC works fine with the correct ratio. Using ffdshow as the DVD video decoder results in it displaying in the correct ratio

Then I tried TV. I've got a dual-screen setup, with display 1 being my Sony TV connected via DVI and display 2 being my Dell monitor (which is actually the primary). MP runs on the TV but when I try to view TV using SAF and the Cyberlink decoder, it opens an ActiveMovie window on display 2 (my monitor) and leaves the EPG showing on my TV! After that, the EPG is frozen on my TV, even though the taskbar shows that if I press H it's gone to Home and closing the window on display 2 doesn't help.
Using the Dscaler decoder works fine.

I've attached logs using the Cyberlink decoder, where I first played the DVD and tried to bring up the right-click menu and then changed the Zoom mode by pressing S. Then I went to the EPG and started LiveTV.

One of first SAF window tells to you to uninstall NERO, this software have ability to dominate over your OS. Then reinstall SAF and try again. If you check nero filter in graphstudio, one information is filename and its location. If you post me that filter, i can make SAF to auto disable this file in SAF setup process.

I am already working on similar function.

First of all update your drivers to at last 9.4 (older have broken DXVA for MPEG2) or try to disable DXVA using start menu - disable PDVD MPEG2 DXVA.
