I can't believe how confused I am here. I've been playing with these things for YEARS and consider myself in the top 5% of techie users.

That top 5% of users aren't using codec packs (SAF is just a codec pack, nothing more ).

Come on tourettes,

SAF is not just another codecs pack I'm sure it matches quite well what most of us had installed on their PC before (spending hours and hours to get the perfect settings).

Well, for example unregistering some Vista default audio codecs will fit prefectly into the codec pack description. Pretty bad behavior as it could break other software.

I checked every movie in my collection and this is all the different audio types I found. Are there any more audio types in movies? If so, please inform me about it.

From the files I found I created movie samples. This is so we can all test this codec with the same file(s).

Hello all ... I'm still having the same problem I told before on post 3155, but now I found a new and different issue. I'm having trouble playing some chapters from a TV series. On Mediaportal I just can see black video and no audio, BUT the time indicator runs normally. If I try and pause the reproduction, MediaPortal hangs and closes. I tried to play it in MPC-HC on that computer and same result, but Windows Media Player successfully plays it... only that I only have 1 audio stream of 2 available and no subtitle. I also tried to play the same file on another computer I have, and there MPC-HC plays it wonderfully.

I've look inside the files with MediaInfo and found out that from one chapter on until the end of the season the encoding changed from h.264 High@L4.1 to h.264 High@L3.1 ... and the only ones I can't see are those with L3.1 . In my second computer where those files play great I have SAF beta 17 installed, and beta 18 in the one where those chapters cannot be played.

I've looked with Graphstudio in both computers and both use exactly the same combination of splitter, filters ... only difference is that in the computer which is not playing those files I use Vista so renderer is EVR and in the other one I have XP SP3 so the renderer is VMR9

I hope I've managed to explain this clearly, it's quite late and English is not exactly my native language... Any ideas?

Hey everyone.. I PMed hoborg about 2 days ago i think, not sure what the turn around time is on the unlocking SAF part... can anyone else be kind enough to PM me at all? Running with CCCP at the moment, and am keen to see all this DVXA stuff in action, not going to mess with CCCP its just playing everything sort of.. and i figure messing with it, when there is all this instruction here on how to do it all with SAF.. i may as well wait.

Hi,

Here's some feedback from a very frustrated user:

1. I've been using SAF (I think beta 09) and just tried installing RC1. It asked me for permission to uninstall the existing SAF, but when it did this it simply stopped. I'd assume it would continue on with the installation once the uninstall finished.

3. I re-ran SAF, and it's now telling me that i don't have the following installed:

PowerDVD
Adobe Flash Player (IE version)
QuicTime MediaLooks QT Source direct show filter, or
QuickTime Alternative.

ARGH. The first post of this thread says that it's an "All In One" solution, yet the installation essentially fails because these other things aren't installed! Why not simply tell the user that they have to install them and provide links or something, or include all these? (Or remove the "All In One" claims!).


4. If there's no need to install PowerDVD, why does the Hardware/Software check pop-up window tell me that Power DVD: Not Found"? I can only interpret this message to mean that I'm supposed to have it installed. Confused!

5. "no need to install PowerDVD or any other kind of codecspacks" - Possibly technically true, but in fact you have to install at least 4 other programs before installing SAF, so this claim isn't really true although it might be technically accurate.

6. Tried configuring MP to enable AC3Filter as per the screenshots in the 1st post. I don't have AC3Filter as a possible option - it doesn't appear anywhere. For some reason, AC3Filter doesn't appear to have installed this time. I'm on Vista SP2 and I can't find where in Control Panel I can even check if it's there. I'll try deinstalling/reinstalling SAF again as AC3Filter is clearly part of the package according to the screenshots on the 1st post.

1) that is normal, just uninstall and run setup again - i newer thought it can confuse somebody

3) PowerDVD + Adobe Flash Player (IE version) - i will remowe it from info screen and move it to log - it is only for info. Quick time in only if you want to play MOV files form cameras, etc. (not HD one)
4) it is only a check - saf need to do it to do some changes.

6) AC3 filter was added in SAF v.4.00 beta14 - on first post "using latest beta is recomended".

But then you shoud be able to select between:

1. AC3/DTS passthrough and reencode TrueHD Audio and friends to AC3/DTS
2. Passthrough all

Because i guess most of the people have a receiver not being able to work with the new BluRay/HD DVD audiostreams.

That is why i prefer to output most standard output - DTS and AC3 48khz.
I found in ffdshow registry options to Passthrough DTSHD, EAC3, and TRUEHD but they are currently off (maybe later i will add this option as on/off to start menu)
First of all i wanted to found if FFDshow is capable to Passthrough correctly, becouse some users here tells it is not. Thats is why i created this test version.

I have a basic question on this DTS-HD and TrueHD audio stuff.
These types of audio streams are used in m2ts containers of BluRay discs. Am I right that the Haali media splitter is not able to handle this? For me this meams that I can not play BluRay discs withe these audio streams with the internal player of MP. But the Gabest media splitter can handle these streams very well (e.g. in media player classic application).
So with Gabest media splitter installed Media Portal should be able to play all BluRay discs with the internal media player, right?
Unfortunately Gabest splitter is not part of the SAF package.

Gabest splitter is part of SAF. I reconfigured it in beta 19 to be used for M2TS, so please test.

SAF is writen for HTPC (MP and GB-PVR) and there is no need for such "evil" on HTPC. Uninstalling SAF wil re-register decoder.

I searched for different files with different audio types. In red or green is the result. If it is green, I give the info from my receiver.

And to be clear.... I did NOT check any of the audio for glitches or loss of quality. This is because my daughter is sleeping 3 meters away from me... Can't turn up the receivers volume.


QUESTION: Can someone tell me how to easilly create a small sample (of 5-10 seconds) from an original mkv/avi without re-encoding?

I tested not working samples

to fix WMA - re-register "qasf.dll" in system32 folder
AAC:
- audio renderer says it is 48khz for me
- check graphstudio and make sure Monogram AAC decoder -> FFDshow audio decoder is in use, if not try to add ffdshow audio decoder to MP postprocessing
- try to enable AAC in ffdshow

BTW, i found small bug in SAF beta18+ - start menu was not deleted after uninstall, i will fix it as soon as possible.

I have an unlocked saf 4.b18, installed exactly as described, but bluray remuxes do not start at all. Is there a workaround? I know geforce is known for issues with VC-1. But, to be honest, I think they were working about 6 months ago..

EDIT:
Trial PowerDVD works fine, but MPC-HC and graphstudio do not open video streams for these files.

mkvmerge cannot open the files either - it says the file is in unsupported container format (MPEG Transport Stream (TS))

is there any other program that can trim the file?

I found TSSplit that seemed to work, the file is uploading now, give me 10 min please.

One is half-way uploaded (10 min left), another will start after that and will take about 30 minutes.
