I'm not using Media Portal to do testing, when I set the external filters in MPC-HC and prefer PDVD9 over the rest and block the rest, PDVD9 is simply not initiated. (W7 64-bit.) It reverts to MPC's own MPEG-2 Decoder, with a low merit message.
On my actual HTPC box, the same thing happened, I couldn't get PDVD9 to load up in MP. (Vista 32-Bit.) (HDPACK 2.3 instead of SAF.)
Methinks there is an issue with this PDVD9 decoder floating around.

Hm, what file you are trying to play, is it MPEG-2?

I wrote few times - Cyberlink decoder doesnot work with DVDs any longer. Use FFDshow instead. No problem to play MPEG-2 MPG files /streams.
It will be working with VOBs from DVD too.

FFDShow for DVDs is a poor choice. With the settings from SAF it's set to de-interlace whatever content passes through, and double the frame rate. This deteriorates the image quality significantly if all that is needed to be done is Weave the content (IE: the majority of PAL DVDs in existence).
Example:
Scene that is simply weaved, resulting in a nice smooth progressive image at 25.000 FPS.
FFDShow deinterlacing applied, runs at 50.000FPS, image quality is worse.
It's best to let DXVA take care of DVD. Considering there is no one setting in FFDShow that can handle or determine if the content it's receiving is interlaced or not.

I agree. But bigest problem is, that DXVA on DVDs cause not working navigation on Vista/Win7...

You can still enable NV12 output in FFDshow - this will enable hardware deinterlacing

I've been using PDVD8 with DXVA for DVD's for many months now within MediaPortal, under VMR9 and EVR. It works fine with the default DVD Navigator. (Vista 32-Bit)
Enabling NV12 within FFDShow and forcing the video card to handle de interlacing would be lovely, except you try doing it with subtitles enabled, ugly!
I'll admit that there is no perfect DVD solution really. Even with DXVA, the pulldown detection on my ATI or Nvidia platform is rather poor. The only way I've found to enjoy my FILM-PAL converted DVDs is to use DXVA+PDVD8 and tick Force Weave within the decoder properties. If I happen to watch something Interlaced I have to fiddle around and set it back to auto-select.

Not true, using corresponding DVD navigator filter and MPEG2 decoder should work. At least I have been using such combination for few years with no single broken DVD menu.
