Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi all,

used saf5 before , all was working, too bad my mediaportal conf file was broken due crash pc. Did new install op MP 1.1.0.0 disaster edition.
Installed SAF 5 again........now the problem : I can't play video's in my tra\ilers anymore. Ofcourse installed quicktime alternative en added .movsd to video extensions in MP . Still no result . Tried to MS dmo to off .....wouldn't do the trick also. Can someone please help me to get my trailers working again?
Question 2 : which svn is the latest of saf 5 ? saf500svn100730b.exe maybe?

Edit @ 20:33 8-8-2010: I just deinstalled Saf 5 , booted pc , installed saf500svn100730b.exe and also QuickTime Source DirectShow Filter, booted pc, still no play "my trailers" .

Here's my SAF 5 Log:

Re: AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Huburg do you think PowerDVD is working to get there Codecs working with DXVA in Windows 7?
Cause in WindowsXP i didnt have any problems at all. But in Windows 7, HD is very choppy, and sometimes, i just get no pictures at all, just every 3 sec another one, and only with many pixel errors... :(

I think Windows 7 Codec cannot decode 1080i channels very good.

Yes, no problem here on my WIn7 x64.
Can be GPU/drivers related.

Assume you are using default SAF setup --> FFDSHOW for DVDs? I can confirm this version plays a variety of DVDs. Been testing a bunch of different discs because I'm tweaking the filter settings for best deinterlacing, denoising, and such.

Are you getting poor/stuttering playback or just a black screen? Is system hanging or can you press Stop key and get back to MePo screen?

It sounds like you have tried a number of discs? Reason I ask is a couple of my DVDs have issues with menu navigation, where I just see a black screen, but if I hit Enter the movie starts to play. I'm not sure yet if this has to do with FFDSHOW or DVD Navigator. In this regard FFDSHOW is not perfect, but I can attest it has much better handling of DVD menus than the native MePo DVD codec.

    <Edit>
I discovered when using FFDSHOW for DVDs, if the Blur & NR > Temporal smooth is engaged, DVD menus with static pictures will show just a black screen. (Sometimes the static menu will show a ghostly image from the previous moving-picture menu screen.) You can verify this by selecting the Only right half option on the Blur & NR options.

It follows that this problem stems from the nature of temporal smoothing. This is a bummer because some noisy DVDs such as Chicago really benefit from temporal smoothing. I'll update again if I find a workaround for this -- maybe mapping a remote button to toggle the Blur & NR on/off.

    Hi Hoborg,

Great work on v5! I decided to do a clean (pretty much) install of the new MediaPortal on 7x64 Ultimate. After I installed the new application I setup SAF v5.00 and overall everything appears to be working great going out DIGITAL CO-AXIAL to my 5.1 Logitech speaker setup. However, there is one MKV file in particular, using DTS audio that doesn't play right. You hear sound but as best as I can describe it, the audio sounds extremely tinny and 'mechanical' (IE not right). The file plays fine in VLC. The media information for the audio track listed by VLC is:

    Codec: DTS Audio (dts)
    Language: Japanese
    Channels: 3F2R/LFE
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Bitrate: 1536 kb/s

I have attached the SAF_LOGs.7z from the installation of SAF v5.00. Please let me know if there is any additional information/logs I can provide to clarify the issue.

    *Edit/Update*

I'm also having issues opening any .ogm pretty much. On some ogm files the codecs MediaPortal lists as missing are XVID and MPEG Audio Version 1 or XVID and Vorbis or DX50 and Voribis. Does anyone else have .ogm files working with SAF v5.00? I didn't install ANY other codecs on the system except for SAF v5.00 so should I just assume I need ogg filters installed as they don't come with SAF v5.00?

    pirivan:

No idea about DTS, did you tryed disable passthrough?

About .OGM - i newer try it, there is no support right now for any OGM in SAF - can you provide small sample to test?

Thanks for the reply! I don't believe I am using passthrough (I recall not checking that box when I setup SAF 5.00). I just go directly from the PC via digital CO-AXIAL to the speakers so I didn't think I was supposed to use passthrough.

As for the OGM files, I will work on getting a sample for you to test on; I can't seem to get any of the .OGM splitting tools to run properly on 7x64, so it will take me a bit to get a 10-15MB clip made. I will try to get it figured out sometime tomorrow.

Then sample please (use MKV merge to split) - take one where i can reproduce it.
