Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

As per my earlier post I upgraded to 4.00 "final" and this seems to have fixed the bad hesitation on playing TV recordings but I still have lip sync or vidio/audio timing issues as also described by Larzon above. However I'm experiencing it on both downloaded Xvid stuff and live TV (worse). The delay does not appear to be consistant 0-0.75 second.

    I've attached some logs

    From your LOG:

    Code:

Does the desync happend if you use default audio renderer?

Hoborg - Thanks for the fast response. I'd had it set this way because I also use the same server to distribute music thoughout the house and that software used to only use the default sound device and therefore I had to explicitly set a different device for MP. The W7 version no longer has this restriction so I'll check it when I get home this evening.

Just try to use Default direct sound renderer to eliminate passthrough issue.

As I wrote earlier, I changed to SAF v4 and everything plays fine, so I guess there must be something wrong with the combination of ffdshow DXVA + ION.

I did not check the latest SAF 5 update, but for me it is always required to disable video postprocessing in FFDSHOW DXVA in order to have smooth playback on my atom330 ION.

You mean subtitles? Subtitles are only one postprocessing in FFDShow DXVA decoder.

Yes, it is on DXVA page subtitles/OSD surface overlay enabling option. It should be disabled to have smooth playback video.

To eliminate MePo issue, you can try GB-PVR.

Thanks for the suggestion. However I went down that road a couple years ago. After about 1 month of frustration trying to get GB-PVR to work on my machine, I had to give up. There was a fundamental incompatibility with my video card.

That's when I decided to try MePo, and I've been pretty happy with it overall -- aside from it consuming part of my life force. ;)

He,he, i have completelly reverse experience. Since i moved to GB-PVR, no problems any longer :D

You are right. To render subtitles, decoded picture needs to be copied from GPU to memory, render subtitles and send picture back to GPU. This process eat a lot of GPU memory bandwitch and can cause stuttering while FullHD playing on low end GPUs like ION, ATI 3200, nVidia 9400 (and older), etc.
Using MePo MPC-HC subtitle engine is recommended instead of SAF one.
I have ATI 5450 in my HTPC and there is no such issues. No problem on ATI 4550 too.
