Re: AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

i do have an intel i3 cpu which got a dxva compatible gpu as far as i know.

Yes, but with not standard interface. that is why DXVA is not in use.

VC-1 is general problem, there is no perfect solution.

So I don't have any chance to make it work?
And is there a difference between your testbuild and the last "normal" release?

There was VC-1 loader in TEST build.
This loader is used to use Cyberlink CV-1 decoder. But it was causing sttering on VC-1 videos, so i dint include it.
Do some google and you will found this loader.

AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

just for my understanding. in your screenshots ffdshow (not ffdshow dxva) is used for most cases. doesn't that mean that dxva is not used most of the time? or should ffdshow use gpu-acceleration all the time even if ffdshow dxva is not selected? do you think it would work if i got a seperate nvidia or ati gpu?
and even if the cpu has to do the job i never have more than 20% cpu usage. in mpc there was an option (just forget the name) that made vc-1 playback perfect. i could try to find out what it was called. perhaps there's a chance of activating the same in mp?

It is easy:
FFDshow: CPU
FFDshow DXVA: GPU (h.264 and VC-1p only)

FFDShow is set to use only one CPU core for video decode, so if you have 4core CPU and you have 25% CPU usage, one core is 100% used.

Remember you need need at last 3+GHz CPU for FullHD decoding without droped frames, so in theory it is better to have 3GHz+ sigle core CPU compatere to 2.0GHz 4 core CPU for Video decoding.
FFMpeg is now much faster for h.264 decoding, so maybe this info is little outdated...

And yes, you can get for example Radeon 5450 (very good for HTPC) or nVidia 2xx.
Or just wait until Intel fix DXVA issues...

SAF 5.00 SVN100910:
- ALL - MPC-HC filters/player updated to rev. 1.4.2523
- ALL - FFDShow updated to rev.3567

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi,

Thanks for your great work, it is really excellent and easy to install and use. The only problem is the VC-1 video, I get a big green box and see no video at all. I read that it's a problem with DXVA and I saw your latest test build was playing them but had stutter. Do you have any ETA on a fully working VC-1 fix or would it be better if I just redownload the movies?

Thanks in advance

Hi.
VC-1p (progresive) should be working fine (at last all VC-1p videos working fine in DXVA mode on my Radeon 5450 and 5770). Problem is VC-1i (interlace).
ETA? Ask FFMpeg team when they will add VC-1i support :)

None FFMpeg based player (XBMC, VLC, MPC-HC, etc,...) is able to play VC-1i...

Unlocked SAF (Cyberlink decoder) is able to play any VC-1, but it used special GUID - this cause that PDVD decoder only work with PDVD splitter. You can use "loader", but it is causing stuttering, becouse this filter didnt pass all data correctly. More info here.

Then I guess my movies are VC-1i, shall see if I can find out. But I guess the fasted way is just to not download VC-1i video if I can and just redownload my current movies. Thanks for the quick answer!

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

there are methods of converting VC-1i/p to H264 ...ive used multiAVCHD (google it or find it on www.videohelp.com)...it may not be a bit-perfect solution but it worked well enough to play my "clash of the titans" bluray rip without any noticeable difference in video quality

the bluray i ripped it from was using VC-1 (not sure i/p) ..but from the disc it would use WMVideo DMO video decoder instead of CoreAVC (coreavc plays far better with cuda and my nvidia gpu)...so after an overnight-convert-session it was working with CoreAVC ...i didnt try it with ffdshow (normal or dxva version) but it prolly would work fine

this is pretty much what im going to do with all VC-1 blurays i find...the WMVideo DMO video decoder works ok from disc (stuttering sometimes if the pc doesnt like me on some days) but way too much stutter over a network..so i gotta convert if i wanna play it streaming... but i usually just back them up onto single layer BDs ..so w/e floats ur boat

it would be nice to play those VC-1 blurays from original discs in MP one day with coreavc or ffdshow =)

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

After using SAF 4 for a very long time, I got tired of random video related crashes and decided some experimenting was in order. So I installed the latest FFDShow "on top" of SAF 4, and while the crashing was now gone, I was no longer able to switch audio streams correctly and the lip-sync started to drift on several video sources.

Today I installed the latest SVN build of SAF 5, and everything seems to work fine, but the MediaPortal zoom modes aren't working correctly for 4:3 materal (xvid source). Whatever zoom mode I try, I don't get full screen video. Or do I have to re-calibrate the screen when going from SAF 4 to SAF 5?

Edit: Kids are watching cartoons now, so I have to wait a bit until I can try more videos with SAF 5.

    Thanks!
