Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

I have an issue with DVD playback. I can use the menu, but as soon as I start the movie there's blocks all over the screen. Videos from the intro-movie, the menu and the movie itself seem to be all mixed together. I have this issue with all DVD's that I've tried.

I'm using the latest SAF5 unlocked with recommended settings from the first post. I also tried to disable the DxVA option in Mediaportal DVD settings, but that doesn't help. Could anyone give me a pointer?

emphyrio:

So you are using FFDshow audio/video decoder for DVD, right?
If you play any MPEG-2 *.MPG video, does the same problem happend? Make sure you setup FFDShow for MPEG-2 too.

Try to install Any "on the fly" DVD decrypter.

Thanks hoborg, for the tips!
  • I had already installed the DVD43 decrypter, the DVD decrypter doesn't seem to be the problem here.
  • I found out that when I change the MPEG2 setting in FFDShow Video configuration, I can get my DVD-video to work! Under 'Codecs', I changed the MPEG2-codec from libavcodec to libmpeg2. Now my DVD's are playing the way they should.
  • FYI: I downloaded two MPEG2 sample files from here, 'Standard MPEG2' and 'MPEG2'. Both worked fine with libmpeg2, only one of them worked with libavcodec.
So, I'm all good now. Thanks for your help.

With the one file, there was no 'corruption', it just didn't show any video. Sound only.
I have the latest MSVS2010 build installed and AMD XP 3000+ CPU (single core, quite old).

Yes, and that can be problem. Acording to my information, there is an bug in MSVC2010 that causing problems on SSE1 only CPUs like your AMD (SSE2 CPU is needed).
Hope MS will fix this in MSVC2010 SP1.

I have no idea what all can be broken, so use older SAF, not MSVC2010 builds.

Thanks, I will revert back to the previous version. Too bad though, my 'vintage' PC was humming along quite nicely, even handling the H.264/Bluray stuff quite well (with aid of Radeon 4550 / DxVA, admittedly). I hope it will last a little longer.

Make sure you disabled HD audio passthrough and try to open these files in graphstudio.
