Re: [Solved] AW: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Hi hoborg!

Thanks for SAF5 final! But i have an issue with some HD movies (not related to final)! Playback in graphstudio is working, but like in MP with heavy stuttering, and instead of ffdshowDXVA PDVD10 codec will be used ! Could you please help? All needed infos are attaced!

Best regards

Helios

[EDIT] Issue solved, i have to enable VC-1 in ffdshow dxva decoder! All is working fine now!

i have the same problem.

Do you mean that you have heavy stuttering with PDVD10 but not with ffdshow DXVA?
For me it's the case since a new PDVD10 codec version has been updated in SAF5, before it worked fine. Now I have to use ffdshow DXVA only.

Yes, but you have to enable VC1! @hoborg: Why isn't it per default?

Yes, but you have to enable VC1! @hoborg: Why isn't it per default?

Becouse you won't be able to play interlaced VC-1 (black screen).

    EDIT:

    Here is what happening:

Your video is VC-1 in MKV
You hit play in MePo - MePo add FFDshow DxVA video decoder, but it refuse VC-1 so it fall back to next video decoder with highest merrit - this is PDVD10 decoder.
Stuttering - it looks like MePo EVR renderer dont handle VC-1 timestamps correctly, that can be possible reason if it play OK in Graphstudio.
You can try lower PDVD decoder merrit in Graphstudio and restart.
Then playback will fall back to FFDshow video decoder instead to PDVD and you will be able to play even interlaced VC-1. Of course without DxVA...

BTW, can you post small video smaple to test?

Source filter & video decoder are responsible for the timestamp handling. Decoder needs to be feed timestamps that are correct ones to the renderer (renderer shouldn't and wont know anything specific to VC-1. It is the same as MPEG2 or H264, decoder just doesn't know anything specific in those - it sees decoded video frames that has timestamps set by the decoder).

Re: SAF v5.00 *final* (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

When I use FFDSHOW, I usually add some pos processing options in the decoder, such as Sharpen, Deband, Postprocessing, Resize etc to get a better image out of smaller xvid/divx files (350mb tv shows, 700mb movies etc).

In SAF 5 none of these options are active by default. Am I still able to use them, or is there any reason why I shouldnt? Will I still get the best picture quality from those files using SAF and the extra options I normally use in ffdshow video decoder turned off?

Yes, you can add any postprocessing manually.

    Yes, you can.
Graph - insert filter - look for "CyberLink Video Decoder (PDVD10)" - Change merrit

Well, send me original key and i will add it :)
System is not broken, decoders are chosen acording merrits.

I do not have the original keys.
maybe it is not broken for alternate players but if you want to use WMP or MC, the user's system is broken by your software.

Shoul not de WMP and MC using MediaFoundation instead of DirectShow???

    EDIT:
Original setting is now restored after SAF uninstall. I will post new SAF revision soon.

Testing SAF5 final registry values from
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectShow\Preferred]
are NOT restored to default values when SAF5 is uninstalled.

Is it your recommendation to re-install Windows after installing/uninstalling SAF product to fix peoples systems?
