Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Huh!? But I use PDVD also for 1080P MKV files. Would it be better to use FFdhow then??
Sorry that I question allot...

Well, i depends on how is video encoded and what GPU you have.
Some will work OK, some wont.
For example some online h.264 videos doesn't work with PDVD decoder....

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Ahh alright I understand what you mean.
Thanks for your answers and time :D

One more question:

I saw in the settings of FFdshow the Output en RGB conversion settings.
But from another forum I got these settings:

Output tab
rgb32 checked
high quality yv12 to rgb conversion checked

rgb conversion tab
ycbcr: itu-bt 601
high quality yv12 to rgb conversion checked
Dithering checked
input: standard
Output levels: Tv/Projector

Are the settigs in you pack the default ones, or did you changed them yourself?

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Will ffdshow eventually do DXVA for MPEG-2 as well as H.264?

Running V5.00 now. Working well so far here.

EDIT: Having said that, looks like I can't play media with 6 channel AC3.

    This plays fine

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

I'm running W7 - a clean, rebuilt-from-scratch PC. I didn't install any codecs or players, and installed SAF 4.1 (i.e. "5.0"). I did this on two PCs during complete rebuilds. On the other PC I installed the current 4.0. On both machines, the SAF installation program tells me that my DirectX needs updating. On the 4.0 machine, I tried installing the DirectX that it asked for but the install failed (no need to update; already has latest versions).

On this machine, with SAF 5.0, (which has DirectX built-in I believe), I get the error "Unable to execute the required file: The following system error has occurred: The system cannot find the file specified. (2)" If I click on OK, Windows pops up a "Move File: Move and Replace?" for language.CZE.xml and then continues on with the installation.

I'll include the logs if it helps.

I also notice that the ffdshow audio decoder configuration dialog box pops up at the end of the installation. I didn't see any instructions on what I'm supposed to do with this, so I normally just close it.

    No.
And there are no reason for it :)
Decoding of MPEG-2 will use ~20% of Intel Atom CPU and deinterlacing is done by GPU if you have modern one.

    Yes, i can confirm that.
SAF 5.00 is experimental, i need to fix that bugs :)

    @dir
BTW, you are on ATI GPU?

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

Happy to report that de-installing 4.1 and installing 5.0 cleared the audio problems I was having.

    Oops - spoke too soon.

I'm on an Nvidia card by the way.

The de-/re-install cleared the audio problem for an .avi file I had, but not for a AVCHD file (extension .m2ts). The sound is broken up, not recognisable. Update: That's what happens when I use the built-in player, but when I play it with Zoom Player, it works ok. GraphStudio shows the file's audio going through ffdshow audio decoder then the default directsound device. If I play it in Zoom Player, it shows the same, yet plays ok. Strange...

I always thought DXVA included hardware de-interlacing. Now I get it. DXVA is just acceleration of the video decoding process.

Any idea why I can't play mkv's with more than 2 AC3 channels?

Not true, DXVA will do GPU decoding + GPU deinterlacing.
SAF will setup FFDshow to decode and output MPEG-2 in NV12 colorspaces. So decoding of MPEG-2 is done by CPU and GPU will do hardware deinterlacing (if GPU support it).

Did you configure you speaker setup in popup FFDshow after SAF install? It is predefined to stereo output.
