Did you configure you speaker setup in popup FFDshow after SAF install? It is predefined to stereo output.

Is it possible to have SAF default this to "Same as input"? It's not hard to change after an upgrade of SAF, but it would be nice.

Nope. Becouse i think most users (like me) use stereo. It is most compatible option.

and for me as 5.1 user - my amp can re-code a stereo output with embedded dolby

works like a charm.... without changing the conf...

Hoborg, would I see any improvements using FFDshow vs MPCHC? besides subtitles. I have a pretty good processor and graphics card and SAF 4.x is working great. Just curious if I'll get better picture quality with the change. Thanks.

is there any advantage of using ffdshow for mpeg2 instead of MS DTV or PDVD9?

Well that fills up this server describing all the options LOL :D

Seriously, always good to support open source if you can, also just so configurable if you want ;)

Yes for DVD (and LiveTV in GB-PVR)
+ no problem with DVD navigation over all OS
+ no problems with DXVA (broken DXVA in drivers) becouse CPU do the decoding
+ HW deiterlacing if you GPU support it (NV12 output)
+ crop to remove black borders (analog TV,DVD)
+ better picrture quality in my eyes (analog source)
+ great stability (no crash for me in GB-PVR since i start to use it)
+ gama correction to make black trully black (good for AnalogTV and DVD)
    + it is free
    - it is blacklisted in MePo
    - 50FPS (interlace)->25FPS (progresive)

Re: SAF v5.00 experimental (based on FFDShow DXVA decoder)

SAF will setup FFDshow to decode and output MPEG-2 in NV12 colorspaces. So decoding of MPEG-2 is done by CPU and GPU will do hardware deinterlacing (if GPU support it).

Ah ok, thanks for explaining. I was wondering why I could still see GPU being utilised (about 20%) with ffdshow on MPEG-2 material. So is it as long as the output from the decoding process is in NV12 colourspace (and I assume the interlaced flag is set), GPU will deinterlace (if it is capable)?

Yes, my test rig is just stereo speakers, so I accepted the default mixer output in ffdshow audio. It actually looks like the graph is not being built for some reason, rather than just "no output". Here's the log output. It seems to have about 3 attempts to build the graph, and I see Haali appear in the system tray, but no ffdshow icons

EDIT: Actually, looking at the logs more closely, I think the problem is subtitles, not multi-channel AC3. How are subtitles supposed to be configured with this version of SAF? I only have the options to use MPC-HC, DirectVobSub or disabled. I did not select the option to use DirectVobSub when I installed SAF. Mind you, setting subtitles to disabled seems to have no effect - the log still seems to show it trying to connect the graph with subtitles.
