Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

@wisdom:
Hi.
I think the problem is your (slow) iGPU + MePo combination.
Did you tryed different TV software - for example NPVR+SAF6?
It doesnot need so powerfull GPU like MePo.

I Think it too!

I tried few years ago the same. The solution was a new graphic card (HD5450). The HDTV signal has more failures as a DVD/Bluray signal. So HDTV results in more work of the GPU.

    Hi,

I need help with HDTV and because I´m using SAF 6 and know, that Hoborg have a very good knowledge about audio/video decoding, I´m posting it here, in this thread.
    I hope it doesn´t mind.

I´m playing with setup for a second week now and still can´t find out, why HD TV channels shuttering.
HD movies are OK and smooth, so my PC is powerful enough I think.
Video codec is PDVD 11 and audio is ffdshow.

I tried other codecs with no luck (and much worse shuttering).
Channels are from satellite and I treid Astra HD demo channel and CT HD (Skylink czech TV).

I tried to switch ON/OFF DXVA, but no difference.
I also found that Cyberlink has some setup in MP config (advanced) and I treid to switch ON/OFF HW acceleration here, but still no difference.
Btw. What exactly doing SAF DXVA switch? How it is releated to MP config PDVD setup mentioned above?

So, only one solution worked - change EVR to VMR9.
After that, no HD TV shuttering. But picture quality is much worse and also show desktop for a second during changing menu (eg. from TV to Movies).
And I can´t play some movies with this rendering, so it´s bad solution.

So, I hope Horbog, or someone else, know this problem and can be able to give me some tips how to solve this prob.

If VMR9 works, I think it can be releated to DXVA acceleration. But why HD movies are OK and HD TV shuttering?

My video card is: ATI Radeon HD 4250 (onboard) with lates driver and Win 7 32 bit
I hope that I don´t need to buy new card, because I want to have it onboard ...

    Thanks.

    what MoBo is that ...
    ATX or mITX ...?

    have a mini-PCIe slot on board ?
(mostly on mITX borads to find)

if yes - you can use mPCIe HD Crystal ...
    works in my N270 Netbook SamsungN130 ...
some crapy intel iGPU ... but with HD Crystal runs...

    EDIT:

with iGPU ATI 4250 (785) BR - no problem but 1080i allways stuttering no chance without extra accelartion
only chance ... reduce resolution to 720p (1280x720/800)- and hold fingers cross that it is enought...

No, I didn´t try other SW. I´ll try.
So, I´m not happy with this information.
I have MePo tuned to all my needs (I love Movies and Series plugin) and I don´t want to change it.
So it looks I have to buy new card ... some passive Nvidia.

Btw. I like Nvidia. My normal PC have, had and will have nvidia only.
For HTPC I tried ATI and it was very bad choice. I never had so much problems with GPU, like with ATI. Nvidia always worked well. ATI Never more! :)

same could i say about nVidia ..
so please be carefull with "heaven&-hell" coments ....
problem is all "normal" iGPU have those problems -

only APU's like Brazos ... or nVidia ION2 make it --
there is no pros or cons for that or that brand ...
they all cooking with water ... (gibts das überhaupt im englischen - alle kochen mit wasser) :)?

i have no problems wih BR or HDTV ( look @ signatur HD4200 onBoard) ...
but i only have a720p viedeo projector ...
so the iGPU power is enought for me... :D
and the HD6250 is @ my 24" monitor @ fullHD - also no problems

    Hi,

about the problem with the preview of TvServer channels, instead of reinstalling SAF without tools, you can have a command ".reg" or something similar to temporarily change the system settings, so you can alternatively use the tools (such as GraphStudio) and the preview from TvServer?
This would be very good to me ..

Thank you and sorry for the english (made by google translator)

Well, it is not that easy...
I still prefer to fix that on MePo side instead of creating workaround :)

Re: SAF v6.00 (based on LAVF)

    Hi Hoborg,
First of all, thanks Hoborg for the great work. I am using SAF since a while now.

In my system I have an on-board graphic with ATI Radeon HD 3200. It took me quite a long time trying different driver/codec combinations until ATI released the right CCC version which works fine with my codecs.
So, I am using SAF 5 with CCC 9.5 and mostly PDVD codecs. It works well with SD, HD-ready, full HD videos. Sometimes I encountered late video (compared to audio), however, I couldn't really reproduce it.
720i TV works good as well. However, 1080i TV stutters too much to watch.

Now I decided to go for a new graphic card to be able to watch 1080i TV, reduce power consumption of CPU (fan speed), and maybe get even smoother playback.
2 months ago I installed the Radeon HD 5450 graphic card, newest driver and CCC.
1080i TV worked :), power consumption was reduced, however I had stuttering in SD TV and SD videos and HD videos. :(

So, I decided to go for SAF6 choosing PDVD codec as recommended here. It got even worse as the system started to hang (or reboot) after a while playing videos. This behavior I also had with HD3200 back in the times with the (I assume) buggy CCC/drivers/codec combinations.

I can remember that you recommended in SAF4 thread to use stabel CCC 9.5 for Radeon HD3200. Is there also a special version of CCC which shall be used for HD5450?
I have already tried the last 2 versions of CCC.
