Re: AW: Re: AW: SAF v6 (based on LAVF)

Thanks for the hint, but still issues with playback of this file! With VC-1 enabled in ffdshow settings playback doesn't work (MP & Graphstudio), with VC-1 disabled playback works, but fully out of sync (15 sec)!

Hi.
I just tested your sample.
I reinstall test build of SAF, keep default settings, drag and drop your file in Graphstudio and hip play. Perfect playback here.

EDIT:
Watch out, your sample is VC-1i, it wont be working if you enable FFDShow VC-1 DXVA decoder!

I build my MePo systems on older hardware so I use XP for speed. However, they have newer ATI-AMD cards and some are older dual-cores.

1. I'm re-building my brother's from scratch (due to HDD failure ... and the Acronis Image is ancient). Should I use SAF 5.02 again (like I did on the last one I built for myself), or try this new SAF 6.x?

2. My last one used (still uses) SAF 5.x and PowerDVD 9.x. We like Dolby Digital to go straight to Onkyo amps for decoding. We play VIDEO_TS folder (rips of my large collection of purchased DVDs) and XVID, MP4, MKV. If I give up the ability to play physical DVDs I drop in the drive ... what free DVD Decoder would you recommend I install with SAF 6.x ?

@Tesla:
1) You can try latest SAF 6. And if you will have any trouble, you can uninstall it and install old SAF 5. I didnt see any problem here.

2) Acording my experience, FFDShow seems to be best for DVDs. Nev is working on DVD support for LAV video decoder, so lets waint and see if it will be better then FFDshow.

Hi,
Sorry for a dump question. Just a quick one and short one.

I have a totally fresh installation of Winwodws 7. I downloaded the latest version of Media portal. What shall I do to play MKV files with DTS-HD sound? (my AVR and PC support DTS-HD, DD HD...).

Just install media portal and install SAF6?

Is there a help page for any extra steps which are needed to do before I will hear DTS-HD?

You need *unlocked* SAF - check PM.
Durning SAF instalation, enable HD audio passthrough. Make sure you set LAV audio decoder in MePo setup. Done :)

Ok. I spent more time reading and found that it is for commercial reason (PowerDVD...). I'll PM Hoborg.
--------------------------------------------
Why is it that we have to "unlock" SAF to get HD audio passthrough? Sorry I tried going through the 163 pages but I couldn't find the explanation in a reasonable amount of time. I guess I am going to have to ask for someone to be kind enough to PM me with the correct version or unlocked.

Thanks

Fred

I want to report that for me the LAV video and audio decoders are working very good!! And that while I'm using an Ati videocard! U use them for everything.. Also for HDTV and my CPU ussage comes not higher than 25% (i3 2100)

Everything goes faster with this codecs.. (fast forward en rewind in (HD) movies and also switching between channels)

Só, I'm happy with it! :)

I have set everything to LAV codecs, I am using an onkyo TX-SR308 and when ever I change from a HD channel to standard def channel there is a dely when the receiver is changing audio mode from Dobly pro logic II to PCM. Is there a way to speed this up.

Also is there a way to activate the subwoofer when I am listening to standard def channels on PCM. The same when I am listening to FLAC files, there is no bass.

    Another question regarding SAF6.

As I understood - MediaPortal requires codecs to be installed. XBMC - not.
Do I understand correctly that I need to install just SAF6 and it will be sufficient to play all MKV files? O do I need any additional codecs (I usually use K Lite Codec pack)?

I only use MediaPortal in my HTPC which only has SAF6-unlocked (previously SAF5-unlocked) installed and it can play anything I throw at it.
So answer to your question is: Yes, SAF6 would be enough.

Edit: I also installed AMD Media Codec Package, in order to have a software encoder to use with my TV card (which doesn't have hardware encoding).
