Another question regarding SAF6.

As I understood - MediaPortal requires codecs to be installed. XBMC - not.
Do I understand correctly that I need to install just SAF6 and it will be sufficient to play all MKV files? O do I need any additional codecs (I usually use K Lite Codec pack)?

XBMC/VLC is not a DirectShow based players, MediaPortal is, so MePo needs codecs to play media.
Yes, SAF should be able to play anything, not only MKV.

Thanks guys!
I'm new to Media Portal so most of the questions most probably should be asked somewhere in newbie threads.

So thanks for your patients :)

I have found a SERIOUS BUG

When I switch from HD channel to standard def channel the picture freezes and I loose sound. I am using an onkyo TX-SR308 with LAV video and audio codecs set for everything. I have left direct sound device at default.

I switched to Cyberlink video decoder under TV codecs and this problem no longer occurs.

You should use PDVD decoders for SD/HD liveTV from *unlocked* SAF - that is default settings for MePo, not LAV video decoder.

I never write anywhere to use it.

Well, in MY case, those codecs working better than the powerDVD codecs.. With those codecs I'm getting a lot of artifacts after a while.. With the LAV videodecoders, everything is working really perfect..

Tried 2 different .MP4 files (one had AAC in the description). The sound was wrong on both files. Like maybe the channels were mixed up and partially muted. Tried changing to Divx decoder in MP-Config/Video Decoders but it didn't help.

    Installing SAF 5.02 fixed problem.

Use FFDshow audio decoder instead of LAV audio decoder until downmix to stereo will be added to LAV audio decoder.
This have nothing to do with video decoder.
Or you can use ReClock audio renderer and enable AC3 compresion. Then you will have 5.1 audio even from 5.1 AAC/WMA, etc...

If I get the system back, I will try again (but I'm pretty sure I tried ffdshow there).

It's hard to make a change and then have to go through a whole set of test videos that have a wide range of video res, video encodings, pcm, bitstream, and all in various containers.

A couple of DVDs to try ...
National Treasure: Ben walking into attic at beginning
Teminator 2 (Extreme Edition): Bar scene near beginning
... unless the DVD Decoder is working perfectly ... the sound or video will glitch ... and it doesn't seem to matter if it's the real pressed DVD or a VIDEO_TS folder. Maybe they are just Mastering mistakes ... but physical players play right through with no problems.

    Hi Hoborg,
i'd like to upgrade SAF to latest release (6.0.2) from SAF 6.00SVN......
There are new releases in sight soon? (6.0.3, 6.0.4, etc...). I do not want to upgrade 2 times :D
    Thanks :)
