I see a post from back in January from alegend mentioning slow file opening times using SAF 6. Was there ever a resolution? I've trawled through this post until I've gone crosseyed, but may have missed it with all the other posts here. If I use SAF 5, files open almost instantaneously, but every time I decide to have a go at SAF 6, there's a large (~10 second minimum) delay before the file opens, so I end up going back to SAF 5.

I don't have any additional codec packs installed, just Win 7 x64, MediaPortal 1.2.3 and SAF (not unlocked) which is using the settings from the first page of this post, the only change being using the MS decoder instead of Power DVD.

[Edit]

I've just timed the delay in starting a video. For .TS files, the file opens almost immediately, but for .mp4 files, the delay is much more significant than I mentioned. It takes almost an entire minute to open the file .... and I don't understand why at all.
Hi.
Your files are stored in HTPC or network?
Did you tryed to open them in graphstudio? START - SAF - Tool - Grahstudio - drag and drop your file here and hit play.

BTW, i dont have such issues on any of my machines. My collection of files open instantly.

Hi

When viewing x264 coded movies I encounter block artifacts as in attached screenshots. Currently I use saf6.12 unlocked but it started a long time ago (even at the end of saf5 development if I remember correctly) and it appears in more and more movies. If I watch the same movie with e.g. VLC player it plays fine (on another machine).
What can I do?
What GPU do you have?
As a workaround, START - SAF - FFDSHOW - configure FFDSHOW DXVA and here untick h.264 and VC-1 DXVA.

Thank you very much! This did the trick. Now the problematic movies play fine.
The other solution you suggested (using quicksync for intel) didn't make any improvement though.

Did you tryed diferent Intel GPU drivers?
I read there are some bugs in certain revisions.

15.26 family drivers shoud work.

Hmmm. I saw no disadvantage in switching off DXVA yet. CPU load was some percents only and picture quality was better than ever. Previously I observed a strange behaviour: The picture got subtly brighter and brighter (or with lesser contrast - I'm not sure) with every second playback until after perhaps 10 seconds it abruptly switched back to normal values which looked better anyway. Then the process started immediatly from the beginning (getting brighter).
Yesterday this phenomenon seemed not to appear anymore. So I'm more than happy.

Files are stored on my NAS, which is in the same room as the PC on a gigabit network.

Graph studio does not seem to be included in the SAF install, nor is it in the SAF folder in Program Files. I presume it's the one from this site?

Tried opening a few files using that, and get a 'cannot render file' message. These files do however play fine (and immediately) using Windows Media Player.

Good for you :p I get the same results on two independent machines.

you have to choose to install tools during the saf install to get graphstudio installed.

same at my side (just a bit less around 5 sec), but i think it is a mediaportal issue with shared folders on nas because mpc-hc on my htpc is a little bit quicker than MP.

    bye

That explains it then. I just left the defaults during the install (with the exception of changing subtitles to MP), Maybe the tools should be a default option for installing SAF.

If it's a MP issue, why don't I have the same problem if I use SAF 5?

Another question while I'm at it. When I uninstalled and reinstalled SAF to install the tools, why did it stop my For The Record Tuner Service? I can't think of a single reason it needs to do that to remove a codec pack.
