Another question while I'm at it. When I uninstalled and reinstalled SAF to install the tools, why did it stop my For The Record Tuner Service? I can't think of a single reason it needs to do that to remove a codec pack.
Hi.
Recording services (not only For The Record) can block audio/video decoder while in use.
Sometime they do it on background - user have no idea abou that.
And when the decoders are blocked, SAF is unable to uninstall/update/install them.
So recording services needs to be stoped before SAF touch decoders.
After SAF install you should restart your machine (SAF will told you you should) to restore recording service status.

If recording service uses some video decoder then it is simply a bug (unless we are talking about analog video encoders). Please open a bug report instead of forcing people to reboot (or at least automatically restart the recording service). Stopping recording service could kill a recording that is in progress and user has no knowledge of that (and we get blamed for the missing recording!).

I am not a MePo user, so no bugreport from me.
If you search this thread, you will find this was multiple users request and it was general problem with multiple recording software.
Honestly, i have no idea why recoding services lock certain decoders on some systems just after system restart - maybe graph is bulded for EPG update? I dont known.
I prefer to have correctly installed decoders comparing to stoped recording.
And installing SAF (or other decoders) durning recording is simply fault on user side :)

So it's a user's fault that YOU put in code that stops their recorder working? Nice attitude ... I don't think.
Well, it was a multiple users request, not my own :)
It is only stoped durning SAF install. After restart, or when aplication call it, it will start again.

Actually, it does it on an uninstall of SAF, and doesn't prompt the user at all to restart (either Windows or the service).

I see a post from back in January from alegend mentioning slow file opening times using SAF 6. Was there ever a resolution? I've trawled through this post until I've gone crosseyed, but may have missed it with all the other posts here. If I use SAF 5, files open almost instantaneously, but every time I decide to have a go at SAF 6, there's a large (~10 second minimum) delay before the file opens, so I end up going back to SAF 5.

I don't have any additional codec packs installed, just Win 7 x64, MediaPortal 1.2.3 and SAF (not unlocked) which is using the settings from the first page of this post, the only change being using the MS decoder instead of Power DVD.

    [Edit]

I've just timed the delay in starting a video. For .TS files, the file opens almost immediately, but for .mp4 files, the delay is much more significant than I mentioned. It takes almost an entire minute to open the file .... and I don't understand why at all.

Solved my own problem. Binned SAF and just installed the LAV filters on their own. No more minute delay in opening videos and plays everything I need it to.

So you are now using LAVF video decoder instead of MS one?

So - I have now checked with Graphbuilder. There is teh same issue - when making a jump you get Pixelerrors afterwards for some seconds. Also I have seen meanwhile that it takes for some Videos ages to start up within MP. The File I used is a torrent from Horrible subs - so no big deal to download it.

About the delayd startup. Whenn I uninstall saf and youse Lav provided from MP every video starts instantly. With saf I have at least a 5 seconds delay.

In terms of DTS - the only way to bring it up without shtuttering is to use the MS Codec - every other has the problam with shtutter.

No, I'm now using LAV instead of ffdshow.

Everything plays fine, and I don't get any of the delays I was getting with SAF 6.
