Mediaportal 32bit, SAF needs to be 32bit, otherwise nothing would work
Firstly, you cannot passthrough HD audio over SPDIF, so disable all HD audio formats, enable only DTS and AC-3.Hello all,
I can't figure out how to configure SAF6 to output sound via SPDIF. I am NOT using MediaPortal; I am just using MPC-HC since it comes with the SAF6 installation.
Here are my LAV Audio settings: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/Im2bz2p345/help3.png
Could someone guide me on how to configure SAF6 via SPDIF? It would be a BIG help!

No, it is not. Audio renderer refuse connection. Can be drivers issue as well.Does this graph look correct? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/Im2bz2p345/help.png

Make sure your audio is trully DTS not DTS HD.
For anyone else having this issue with the SPDIF audio not working, please go to your Windows 7 Playback Devices (you can access this via Control Panel) and check your playback devices.

Well, SAF popup that window durning install and ask user to setup correct device, right?
YesYes, mine prompted me during the install as well, but it did not switch the default playback device to SPDIF. It left it on "Speakers" instead of "SPDIF passthrough." Was it supposed to switch this during the install?

I'd love to get a AV amp one day, but unfortunately at the moment I'm just using my TV speakers for L&R and a Tripath stereo amp for the Centre. I'm also setting up an HTPC for my brother, who's even poorer than me so he'll have to use the analog outputs as well (again with his TV and a stereo amp), so it's quite important I get this working.
Nothing wrong with that ...
All my MePo client HTPCs and the ones I have built for my brother are older re-purposed computers.
But true 5.1 amps have been shipping for about 10 years now. The used market is flooded with good pre-HDMI amps.
I'm sure there's second-hand bargains to be had, but a quick look on e-bay suggests prices around £100+shipping and then you need a decent set of 5.1 speakers to make it worth it. Generally 5.1 amps aren't as good for music as a decent stereo amp, so neither my brother or myself are likely to want to disconnect our existing stereo amps and use the speakers we already have either and even £100 is way more than my brother can afford (and whilst I could spend that, I've really got far more important things to be saving up for). Plus we both live in flats with poor sound insulation, so wouldn't really be able to play stuff at levels where we'd properly appreciate a decent 5.1 system. It's just nice to be able to watch a film with a separate centre channel once in a while and switch the stereo between TV and amp (mainly for playing music without needing the TV on) without messing with cables or switchboxes, so that's all I'm trying to achieve really.
Have you looked at using an 'offboard amp'? thats what i was using with my Naim Audio amp untill i got an av receiver. It just runs the centre and rear channels and passes the front straight to your amp.
