A search in the log for Netframwork shows no mention of 4.5.1 but also shows
    Property(C): ErrorDialog = ErrorDlg
    Property(C): SecureCustomProperties = NETFRAMEWORK45;OLD_VERSION_FOUND

By chance do you have both versions installed (45 and 451) and are they 64bit only?
If they are, MP needs the 32bit installs

these 3 things don't seem to be the problem. Let me know if anyone has any other ideas.

I tried installing the software on a USB drive instead of drive C, just as a test. I had the same error.

I found the MediaPortal 2 Server Service in the services area. I can click start, and it starts and then stops. But I am still having the same error.

So it definitely is a permission issue. Something did not allow MP2 server to start. This can be wrong permissions for the system account MP2 server is running with, write protection of e.g. the program data or program files folder, Windows Defender or similar "security" software preventing MP2 server from working,... There can be thousands of reasons causing this, but nothing has directly to do with MP2, it's most likely a Windows configuration issue... Hard to find, I fear...

I still believe there is something with NET4.5.1. I found another post and every time manual installation of NET4.5.1 could solve the problem in the end. https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/threads/mp2-alpha-2-start-service-issue.119733/page-2
    • Can you please de-install MP2 completely. Also delete all related files in C:/Program Data/Team MediaPortal/... (hidden folder) and c:\program files\team mediaportal\... in case something remaining.
    • De-install NET4.5.x
Then install the NET4.5.1 32Bit version.
Then try once again to install MP2
