Missed this post in earlier search. I have a mobo with ATI X1200 which worked OK with 0.2.2. Did not touch Radeon drivers (7.5 package) or settings for a long time, after upgrade to 0.23 RC1 MP sucks 50% CPU (=1 core@full load) when it is idle in main menu.

This happens with the (default) normal skin, and only in fullscreen. During operations such as playing video etc CPU is at normal load. This is really bugging me since my fans start working up a pretty good speed.

Welcome to the club.
You have a few options:

1.) Install the latest Omega drivers (based on Catalyst 7.4)
2.) Install the latest NGOHQ drivers (based on Catalyst 7.3)
3.) Switch back to MP 0.2.2
4.) Convince one of the MP developers that it is a MP issue and to look into it.

Catalyst 7.5 / 7.6 / 7.7 all show the problems you found. So if nothing changes we have to stick with old graphic card drivers or switch to NVIDIA.

:confused:

Made some further tests:

Catalyst 7.4 - Single core system:
--------
Radeon 9600 -> OK
Radeon 1650PRO -> OK
Radeon 1900 GT -> OK

Catalyst 7.4 - Dual core system:
--------
Radeon 1650PRO -> ok
Radeon 1900 GT -> ok

Catalyst 7.5 / 7.6 / 7.7 / 7.8 - Single core system:
--------
Radeon 9600 -> OK
Radeon 1650PRO -> OK
Radeon 1900 GT -> OK

Catalyst 7.5 / 7.6 / 7.7 / 7.8 - Dual core system:
--------
Radeon 1650PRO -> fails
Radeon 1900 GT -> fails

So ATI users with dual core have to stick with Catalyst 7.4 so far or use skin BlueTwo (nonwide).
If there are any ATI users out there it would be helpful to hear about you config.

Checked with the latest Catalyst 7.8 and still same problem.
BlueTwo (nonwide) seem to work without problem.

As I stated in a previous post I experience the problem both with wide and default BlueTwo, but ONLY in fullscreen. I am not sure how to trouble shoot this matter. I have tried disabling almost everything in MP without success, have also tried to enable/disable almost every feature that my ATI X1250 supports.

When I checked with Process Explorer it seems that MP spends all of its CPU-time in mscoree.dll. After some googling I tried Exctrlst.exe to disable perf. counters for mscoree (longshot, but..) with the same results.

I have now reverted back to Catalyst 7.4 and everything is fine and menus feel much more quicker (for instance yes/no-box when deleting a recorded show). It bothers me however, I want to keep both MP and my system drivers up to date.

If I knew how to trouble shoot I would provide more info, but it is not like there seems to be any errors in the logs that are relevant.

I have opened a case at ATI about one week ago, however what has happened till now does not look to promising. :(

I will keep this thread updated.

So this is the response I have got from ATI. Not very promising. So everyone having this issue should report this issue to the Catalsyt driver team, or buy an NVidia card. :mad:

"You can suggest to the other people that are also affected by this issue to report this directly to the Catalyst driver team. Since this appears to be driver specific after a certain version, the driver team will need to see it isn't an isolated case and will need to investigate it further to determine what changes were made between 7.4 and 7.5 that may have affected the program. These processes will take time and may not necessarily be addressed by the next Catalyst release, but they will definately look into what may be causing the issue to occur. Thank you for bringing this to our attention."

Today made another test with same systems but with a Radeon 2600XT and the problem does not exist, so only X1K Radeons are affected by tat problem.

grubi.

Today I installed the new Catalyst 7.9 on the system with the Radeon 2600XT and the problem now also exists on HD2xxx series graphic cards (seems that one of the performance improvements for one of the games which were now also implemented for the HD 2xxx series is causing this).

Beside all the other problems encountered PQ wise it seems the Radeons are made for gaming and benchmarks but not for real world HTPCs. My next card will be NVIDIA.

I also just installed 7.9 and have the problem as well. Tried on an x1950pro and 2x x1300 machines and they all now exhibit the problem.
