Skype plugin (2 Viewers)

Update in progress...

In maniac's apparent absence, I'm working on updating the Skype plugin for the latest release of MP.

maniac's - if you're around (by another name?), please PM me to let me know!

I'll start a new thread when it's ready for testing, but so far I've

- switched to using the official Skype4Com wrapper -it's part of the Skype 3 installation, so everybody will have it eventually;

- switched to using the official Skype icons (@verhohner - this should fix the fuzziness for you )

- updated basic skin files (BlueTwo 4x3 only as yet) to use MP's new features (and work better with the latest release);

- fixed a few minor bugs I've noticed while working on it.

The first release will be a "get it working on 0.2.2.0" kind of effort...

Note: Skype is not yet supported on Vista, and I have at least one major problem with it at present (it insists on setting my mic volume to 0, but only for the third and subsequent calls... go figure... and yes, I've told it not to mess with my volume controls...). Skype say the next version will be Vista-ready...

I have tried your plugin and the maniac's as well with no success... I think that the idea is great but not yet very well tested... hope that you will find a way to make it work ... I intend to use it on my htpc with a bluetooth...

Ignoring the Chat plugin for the moment, can you be more specific about what problems you have found? I've found and fixed several, but need to know if there's anything that I've missed, and should look at before a release... I've read the thread, but there's not much specific there...

I think that the idea is great but not yet very well tested...

regarding maniac's plugin:
-I was unable to navigate with the remote control into the whole main menu... I was able to select one of the contacts to give the call (enter key on the contacts list will insert the specific contact into the curent call status windows ) but I was unable to navigate upon the hold and stop buttons with the left, right keys and finally I could canceled the call just with the mouse
- the current call status window can have a better design (a color to alpha will help)
- it will be nice to have some more specific skype options...like to assign some specific keys to do some jobs (show contact details, send sms, open chat, open a video conference...etc) if the jobs can be assigned to the keys this will be really nice since on the remote control we can program just keys....
- if you succeeded to do something it, send me the beta version I will try to use it... (acasandrei_florin@yahoo.com)
-maybe it was a mistake on my part but I have tried the plugin with the latest version of skype...

Doh! Hadn't thought about this (yet!) - my dev is done on not-the-HTPC, and tested using mouse and keyboard, which works fine! You should now find the remote navigation much improved...

Can somebody out there help with this? I have all the design skills of a brick...

Good idea - I assume these are remote buttons you're talking about? Or keyboard keys?

I have installet Vista on my labtop and VUHUUU Asus haven't developed drivers for my bluetooth yet, and the don't know if they ever will do

I have just installed it and here is my first impressions:

My HTPC are only controled by my remote control (When im testing i put mouse and keyboard to of course )

1. First as tash28 sayd, I can't navigate to my contactlist

2. It would be nice with some kind of sorting on the contactlist.
fore example all offline in the bottom and the others on top. and then sorting after name.

3. In the history i can see the list and it works, but i can't select one of them, and get to the Current call status.


That was the first 3 things... Im looking on it later
Maeby I can get a friend to look at it to...
Nice features could be some kind of options site, where we can decide how skype will react when we are watching movies

Thanks for the comments!

1. Assuming you're using the new improved version you should be able to use the left/right keys to get there eventually. Improvement suggestions for nav are welcome.

2. This is on my list - I'm trying get what's there stable before allowing feature creep to take over though...

3. You want to select an item in the list, then see whether the caller is on/off line etc? Or make a call? (BTW: the Purge feature doesn't work like it ought to from the Skype api, which is why it's disabled)

4. Yes - that's another thing on the list - pause/stop the video/music/TV when a call comes in?
