Slow response when using folder.jpg (1 Viewer)

Hi

Perhaps I'm the only one with this kind of problem.

I've got extremly slow response from MediaPortal when using folder-art in
my music-folders. Changing from one page to another take seconds.
My folder-art is represented by a folder.jpg in each album-folder.

The same problem occurs even if I use listview to view my albums.
Even building the music database doesn't seem to solve the problem.

My htpc-setup is as follows:

Intel Celeron 2.0 Ghz
384 Mb ram
Club 3D (Ati) 9250 128 Mb

I have also noticed a bad performance as of 0.0.0.12 with this.
I was gonna wait for frodo to return and discuss the topic before entering it as a bug.

But I will be checking this out for sure.

    Hi again

For me, this problem is still present in the new version 0.0.0.13.
Version 0.0.0.11 have a much more quicker response when
browsing music in listmode where folders having a folder.jpg file.

    Explanation of the problem:

The slow response/update of the listview occurs when using the
up- and downarrows at the right bottom corner. These buttons are very handy to use when browsing big blocks of albums. The same problem also
occcours when using pageup and pagedown.

Perhaps this has something to do with the cashing of thumbnails for
    folder art (folder.jpg)

When first accessing 'My Music' after MP-startup there is also a 3-4 seconds pause before the first page of albums (with a thumbnail in front of each folder, (listview)) is shown.

Ok. I've been researching that phenomena a bit closer right now:

When going to "My Music" and browsing albums with cover art i.e. in List View there are 10-12 albums already displayed. When browsing between these 10-12 albums, there are no problems, even CPU Load is at 4% max.

Now when a new album with cover art has to be loaded into sight, the CPU Load goes up to 40%! If i keep pressing the remote it goes even further up. I could measure a max. of 70%!

I tested this with two systems, latest stable MP (0.1.0.10) and latest CVS (29.03.2005, 0.1.1.0).

    My Main system:
    Asus P4P800, P4 2,8 GHz, 1024MB RAM, 160 GB HardDisk, NVIDIA FX5200 (71.84)
    WindowsXP Media Center Edition 2005, SP2, WMP10

    My Test system (freshly installed):
Dell Inspiron 8100, P3 Mobile, 256 MB RAM, 20 GB HardDisk, NVIDIA 2 Go (66.93)
    WindowsXP Pro, SP2, WMP9

Thanx in advance for checking this one out!
    Tomcat.

The problem still persists even with 0.1.2.0

Could you guys please, please, please take care of this? It's the only reason why I can't use this great program at all.

Thank you very very much in advance!!!

    Cheers,
    Tomcat.

i want to look at this, but i miss information.
    So couple of questions:

    1. in which view does this occur (my music shares,genres,...???)
    2. how many items does the list view have in total ?
    3. you say it is only happening with folder.jpg
does this mean you got like 100 music folders, each having 1 folder.jpg
    file ??

    Hello Frodo,

thanks for taking on this one :D

I'm gonna supply you with every single bit of information you might need, so don't hestiate to ask!

    Here the answers:

    1. It occurs in every single view, meaning list view, album view etc. When i.e. there are 120 albums and 10 are in view, then the scrolling between these 10, that are already in view, is super fast. However when scrolling one more up (when at top) or one more down (when at bottom) it takes between 1 to 5 seconds to load the previous or next entry. The more albums are in there, the longer it takes, but the time growth is not linear, but anti-proportional.

    2. In total there are 121 albums right now.

    3. Right. I'm having 121 sub folders, each with 5 to 15 tracks & the corresponding folder.jpg. All my mp3's do not have any cover art, except the mentioned "folder.jpg" for each of the 121 sub folders.

    Additional information:
    1. At first I thought it was the virus scanner, so I disabled it, but no speed up occured. Then I rebuilt the whole database includung the new cover art check box, but still no improvement. When I deleted ALL folder.jpg files the scrolling was superfast again.

    2. When in main menu after chosen "Music" in the menu, with each added album it takes longer to build the corresponding view. The delay is anti proportional as well.

If you need any further information, just tell, I'm next to the silicon based machine...

    Cheers,
    Marco.

    Hello Frodo,

were you able to figure out, why there is such a slow response?

    Thanks,
    Tomcat.
