I've read this whole thread, and i've had to deal with split movies files just like everyone else here. Im not trying to be rude or mean, but what's wrong with pulling out virtualdub, and joining the AVI segments together? Virtualdub also has a job queue and scripting, so if you have a lot of videos that are split, you can setup a queue for them and script the work to complete one night while you sleep.
Im sorry, i just have difficulty seeing the benefit to this feature. IMO media should be stored in its most basic form: MP3, MPG, AVI, etc... not wrapped in more containers or encapsulation methods to complicate the situation.
