but playing a 23.976 1080p gives black screen with stuttering audio
    see ebclosed the evr.log from 23.976 1080p
Thanks for trying and for the logs. I see the "scheduling sample form the past" a lot. This should not happen (except the first few frames at the beginning) continuously unless the machine is not powerful enough and CPU is maxed out. Something is screwing with the thread scheduling.

But you should never have any audio problems. The video is synced to the audio and should never have any drop outs (except if you are decoding it on the HPTC and the machine runs out of CPU power). Any change you are using MPA as an audio filter? I have huge issues with the one that comes with MP under Win7. It creates exactly the problem with DTS tracks on my machine and SPDIF passthru: choppy audio and screwed up DS graph.

I'll continue my investigation next year, I do not have access to my developer box between christmas and new year.

    My observations...

I'm experiencing the same with all codecs for MPEG2 and H.264 (Arcsoft, Microsoft DTV-DVD, MPC, Core, Cyberlink PDVD). Dropping frames under EVR except for the Elecard MPEG2 decoder and the Nvidia PureVideo, which both in turn run only at 25FPS under MediaPortal. It is common that every codec, that does double the FPS to 50FPS (Live TV), drops frames under EVR in MediaPortal. When connecting with graphstudio to a graph from MP, the EVR statistics are the same. Every other software out there seems to work right with EVR just not MediaPortal. Timeshift files or recordings from Live-TV are playing perfectly without dropped frames in other players with every named codec. Also when I build the same graph in GraphStudio which renders the same source (IPTV, same streaming filter Elecard NWSource), I get constant 50fps in EVR statistics with no dropped frames at all. Idk if the EVR part or the TSReader part of MP is to blame, sure is, something is terribly wrong here. I didn't attach any logs, because there are same as allready pasted with many "Dropping frame, behind xxx ms, last sleep time xx ms." inside.

To sum it up, Live-TV (IPTV source) all with EVR renderer:
    1) Arcsoft, MPC-HC, PDVD, CoreAVC2.0, Microsoft DTV-DVD inside MP @ 50fps dropping frames like crazy, stuttering and finally random picture freezing after some extended time
    2) same decoders as under 1) in GraphStudio with exactly the same graph like the MP builds play the content fine without any dropping of frames @ 50fps
    3) Nvidia PureVideo and Elecard MPEG2 play @25FPS and aren't dropping frames in MP
    4) Nvidia PureVideo and Elecard MPEG2 inside GraphStudio with exactly the same graph like the MP builds play the same source without any dropping @ 50fps

Don't know if this is the right thread to post in. My system is a Core 2 Duo at 3GHz and a Nvidia 8800GT 512MB videocard (many different drivers tested), connected to the TV@PAL 50Hz via S-Video. The same issue appears on the Asrock ION330 and finally the LiveTV freezes.

Are you, the developers, aware of this issue? Is it being worked on?

i am using ac3filter in codecs and post processing
i know it is using it because i correct audio delay in ac3filter

I traced the code a bit. It seems that the painting of some frames takes forever for unknown reasons (like 70ms or so). Need to investigate this further. My bet is currently on a DirectShow problem when letting it handle the vsync. And Alt-Tab fixes this. I'll continue my work here once I am back home in two weeks and create some new builds for testing.

Great to hear that you are not giving up on this!
This is actually the only major "bug" that concerns me with MediaPortal right now.

    Merry Christmas!

Just encountered this problem on XBMC 9.11 (DX) for Windows.

Exactly as in MediaPortal the same combination (switching between a couple of movies with diffrent frame rates) "triggered" the stuttering.
Switching focus to another application and back to XBMC worked as a dirty quick fix (just as in MediaPortal)

BUT this was when using default settings for video playback. After disabling the "FullScreen Window rather than true fullscreen" option, I have not seen this kind of stuttering yet (started at least 150 movies as I really tried to provoke it).

I know XBMC (official builds at least) does not use the same kind of player/graph as MediaPortal for playback.
But maybe someone (read Scythe42) could have a look (in the XBMC code) on why this strange stuttering behavior did occur AND could be stopped/solved by unchecking the "FullScreen Window rather than true fullscreen" option. Maybe there is a method that could be used in MediaPortal?

Even though the user interface is quite snappy and looks good with the Alaska skin, I'm not tempted to change MediaPortal for XBMC as
XBMC molest my audio and can't play video as smooth as MediaPortal with ReClock

I have recently started using the automatic refresh rate changer after getting a Sony Bravia TV which accepts 24p. The stuttering issue has been plaguing me from the moment I started using this feature. I have found using VR9 instead of EVR solves this problem. VR9 must be set to exclusive mode or else the stuttering returns. This is an OK stop-gap solution, but I use my HTPC for torrents etc, and WAF factor drops down dramatically when I try to use the HTPC when playing a video and the video minimizes due to VR9's exclusive mode. Hopefully a fix is found for this.
