If it was me I would backup your system partition using a backup tool such as arcsoft hiren's bootcd to create a backup image.
I would then 'aquire' a copy of win7 32bit for testing purposes
Then I would format my HDD
Then install Win7 + Video Card Driver + TV Tuner driver
Then install MP 1.1 + SAF 5.0, nothing else installed.
Then tune the channels, then run MP and test (with aerial pluged directly into the htpc)

Hi Kiwijunglist,

I thought of doing exactly what you have described. Is the Arcsoft Hiren's BootCD free?

I also tried activating settings which had a tickbox "application settings" which seems to have improved the picture - basically back to what it was like - unsure why based on your experiances of keeping everything "vanilla".

Appreciate all your advice - let me know in this forum if you think of anything else.

Will keep you posted on progress.

Cheers

Graham

the cd is free to download, but contains commercial software, google "hiren's boot cd"

application settings just uses what ever you have set within mediaportal. also from memory there are application settings tickboxes for different parts of CCC which means your answer is non specific.

Get the latest tv tuner drivers for both your cards from here - Hauppauge Computer Works Ltd : Support
Click drivers only, don't download the software, just the driver only.

    Hi,

Have loaded Graphstudio and found that when I select a recorded file (from tonight) it tells me CoreAVC is being used and not PDVD9 as per the setting in MP. Does that mean that MP would be using CoreAVC instead?

    Cheers

you gotta set mediaportal to run in windowed mode, then play the recording using the recorded tv page (not my videos, as this may uses different codecs if setup differently). so yeah play the tv recording in mediaportal my tv, then run graphstudio at the same time and click connect to remote graph. this will tell you what codecs are being used.

When I select Connect To Remote Graph, a box comes up with an option, however when I select connect it doesn't seem to? Tried running as administrator as well?

Today I removed CoreAVC from my list of Codecs (based on Graphstudio showing it was selected from a TV recording when the TV recording was recorded using PDVD9 - but this was by opening the file instead) Anyway, I seem to have a picture with less blurr now - I am however having lockup's in MP in different places, but this was happening before I removed CoreAVC.

A question, will multiple codecs and codec packs cause issues like the blurring I have described??

when you record something you don't use any codecs. So you can't record with PDVD9 or coreavc. You only use codecs when you play a recording. No one can answer your question unless you post a screenshot showing graphedit connect to remote graph whie you are playing a recording. You might want to format your computer with win7 32bit and install just your latest ati driver and tv card driver. Then install MP1.2 Alpha + latest unlocked version of SAF5.X Don't install anything else. See what the quality is like at this point.

So when I just select the ts file in Graphstudio, why did it select CoreAVC - what determines that? Is it because CoreAVC was the first codec that I loaded? I guess it's irrelevant anyway as we are trying to diagnose MP.

You may have missed one of my earlier posts regarding my issue trying top get a Graphstudio graph out of MP - it displays a window showing what I think is the recording, but doesn't seem to want to create a graph? I have tried running this as administrator in Vista (a suggestion in a forum) but still no lucK?

I see comments in other forums that Vista is a bad operating system, so I'm trying to get my hands on a copy of Win 7.

As mentioned prior, since removing CoreAVC my picture appears to be better - do multiple codecs and codec packs sometimes cause conflict and the types of issues I'm getting?

Thanks for your reply - I appreciate it.

Well, tonight I removed all codecs, MP, 4TR and then did a windows update. I then loaded MP 1.1.1.0, 4TR 1.5.0.3 and then SAF4 (stable version) All I'm missing is the PDVD codec - any advice on how to get that and if PDVD10 would be the best appreciated.

Picture so far looks OK with TV Codec set to FFDSHOW.

I still don't seem to be able to get a graph on Graphstudio when playing MP?? Any idea there??
