My Stutters came form LAN conneciton issues, after I improved the quality of the LAN they are dramaticly redused. You can test if this is an issue for you by playing the files on the TV server to see how well it plays there. If it plays properly on the tv server you can focus on LAN and client specs. Also the disk of the tv server is a problem, when its recording programs and your watching recordings or live tv it becomes a real problem since the disk gets to busy. Would be nice if that could be improved. Next stutters came from the codec, not real stutters but also not smooth playback, fram skipping etc. MPV works the smoothest for me but with less picture quality. FFD has better picture but just does not play entirely smoothly. The powerdvd codecs are great, but alos not smooth for tv playback somehow, still need to work that out ;)

MPV you MUST UREGISTER, using Radlight, otherwise it will force itself to be used anyways no matter what you select in mediapotal configurator.

    Thanks for your reaction ;)

But how do ik unregister the mpv codec... And i downloaded Radlight,.. but can't find it in MP ???

    greets oekie

Radlight is not an MP plugin :) just a simple stand alone program.

Open Radlight (just double click the Radlight Fiter manager EXE file you downloaded)
scrol down to Direcshowfilters, click on the + in front of it
scrol down to MPV Video filter (or codec)
select MPV Video... by clicking on it, then click the Unregister button at the bottom.. Confirm (if asked) by clicking OK.
reboot the computer to remove MPV out of the register permanently.

    That's all

Now you busy, you could also Unregister the MPA codec, the same way. These gabest codecs do nothing else then bringing troubles.

    I hope this helps

You'r welcome!.. just sharing my own experience.. I have been strugling for months before i got it right!

A tip to improve it even more.. make sure the signal and quality is 100% or near 100%, (both bars fully green when scanning channels in Media Portal TV server.) by replacing the coax cable and most important the coax plugs.. those plastick ones are notorious of letting in noise and loss of signal. I bought hirshman coax and all metal coax plugs at the Media Markt.. Handyman shops sell them as well.

The Coax installation was crap in my house, cheapest of the cheapest plugs, and the coax core was thin and brittle, and not shiny yellow copper. an indication the cable is full of tiny hair cracks and full of corrosion... After replacing the coax cable and plugs the signal improved to 90%. Installing a signal amplifier made sure it was steady 100%.

Unless it is about digital signals, these are carried on analogue carrier frequencies, so when these carrier frequencies are not perfect, the FloppyDTV has a hard time to find the digital signal, resulting in stutter and blocking and in worst case no image/sound at all (In my case I could not watch HD channels, or with lots of blocking squeeqy sound etc)

I hope this helps again :)

    I tryed severall things already....
    -fresh instal
-different cable,...because i have the crapy stuff. But signal is 100% so a new cable didn't do the job
    -tryed different codecs
-tryed different drivers for my 8600GT

With the codecs, i got the best improvements.. But its not perfect....
It looks that the HD channels working fine,.. but i have the biggest probs with ordenary SD channels...
It can go well for a hour,.. sometimes a few minutes,.. but then it start stuttering again...
Maybe with your advice it's over,.. ...
It's a big issue in MP,.. the codecs,... .Some will do fine,.. but it will give no sound on a few channels.. Others will stutter...
It's hard to get a decent config....

But I will not give up!!!!

Looks like you have eather not enough graphics memory, or not enough memory assigned to your on board graphics card. OR the specs of the graphics card is not sufficient, so most of the work has to be done by the CPU and because the CPU also has other things to do, it will cause stutter.

I have AMD X2 6000 and I'm using integrated 780G graphics chip with maximum 512 MB memory for it. The CPU is practically idling with DVB. With my previous setup I used ATI HD2400 but it didn't help.

Your problem lies in the codecs you use.. FFD show for H264 is not the greatest. MPV is CRAP!!

In my case the issue cannot be in the codecs, because if I playback a recorded show twice the dropped frames always occur in the same place (and they are also visible in the error logs as video/audio discontinuity).

Signal here should be fine - at least it didn't cause any issues to Toplink, and the bars are 100% green in TV Server config.

If signal is OK, corect codecs installed, it must be the graphics card itself. That you see the same dropped frames in a recorded movie is because you have recorded the dropped frames as well :) You should try to copy the movie on a cd or dvd and try on another computer to be sure.. or use another mediaplayer .. OR, the frame rate/pixel changes per frame, is at that particular point too much for your grphics card!..isnt the 780G the same as the x1250? (x1250 is the intel version of the 780G for AMD).. not sure.. but I have the x1250 on board and did not have enough grunt to process HD material smoothly, disabling HW accelleration did improve performace a little bit.

MP is a memory hog, however specs say 512 is OK, 1Gb is much better.

I ended my struggle by installing an up to date Graphics card with 1Gb memory on board, the HD4650 chipset does a wonderful job, no stutter at all and brilliant colors, much better then the on board x1250.

Your cpu ( X2 6000) gfx (HD3200/780G) should have no problem with SD TV. SDTV isn't 1080i so don't worry about above thread. Is the HDD that tvserver uses for timeshift & recording have plenty of space / defragged?

Yes, I have two HDs, both are high performance SATA drivers.

I just noticed yet another thing. When my PC was connected directly to the antenna cable, according to MP there was one error in the signal approximately 15 to 30 seconds. My new TV also has DVB-C tuner, so I installed simple passive antenna cable splitter box. Now there are constantly errors in MPs TV signal(every two seconds or so), but reception on the TV is flawless.

Could it simply be that Terratec DVB-C 1200 sucks? (My first DVB-C card, Technotrend, sucked even more.)
