AW: Subtitles won't show playing .vob files

Hm.. RLE seems a very special subtitle format. I guess thats the problem. Maybe the user Sebastiii can have a look or you can send him a private message.

That's odd. I have ripped them myself with 'DVD Decrypter'. Should be ordinary DVD subtitles.

Thanks for the tip about Sebastiii.

    Hi Daniel :)

I have receive your PM and follow topic :)
If i understand correctly, you want to get sub directly from vob files and not from the DVD right ?
If yes, i don't know if subtitle engine can do it, i mean on DVD yes because MP use DVD Navigator from Mircrosoft and connect subtitle pin to for example PowerDVD Codec.
Can you upload a sample somewhere ?
Normally if Vobsub or FFDshow should be work, you can try in graphstudio and connect filter manually and see if it works (but i'm sure that it works outside of DVD structure).
A sample will be good to test.
Another idea should to extract sub from vobfile to a external format that working with subtitle engine :)
    Thanks.

    Hi Sebastiii,
    thanks for your attention!

I have attatched a sample of 1,5Mb. I don't know the limit of file uploads in the forum, but let me know if it is too short. I do not have anywhere to upload a bigger sample yet, but that could be arranged if needed to.

You understand correctly. There is only the .vob file, nothing else. With the Pinnacle ShowCenter there were no problem showing/swapping subtitles, that is why this container was choosen from the beginning. Extracting subtitles is not an option since there are several hundreds of them(series with episodes in single .vob files and a lot of movies).

If you need me to test anything with vobsub/ffdshow you have to give me clearer instructions since I'm new to MP.

Thanks again for your attention! Hope there is a solution since this is a no go for MP for me if it does not work.

    /Daniel

    Thanks,

You can upload a bigger file using this link, going to try testfile :)
    TS Dumps - MediaPortal Wiki

A more longer sample would be nice, the first one (testfile) show up in LAF Splitter 2 Vobsub subtitles but it didn't show up on video (maybe because the sample is too small)

The second one no subtitle was detected in LAV Splitter.

Sure a bigger one would be nice :)

I have uploaded a 300Mb sample to TS Dumps (the link you provided). The file is called 'Testfile VOB Subtitles.VOB' and should contain one video-, two audio- and three subtitle-streams.

Hope this file is a good enough to test with :)

    Somes news,

Subtitle works only with FFDShow engine, it works too with directvobsub but really bad (sub are black and not entirely in screen).
I use 3965 version of FFDShow.
Can you try if it works ?
    Thanks.

That is great news. I have to look into that to see if I also can get it to work. Thanks for helping me out. I think I will have some more time to spend on this now. So let's see if I can get it to work. I'll come back with questions for sure! :)

Perhaps a dumb question, but could the skin you choose have anything to do with, or affect, the decoding/different engines?

(I'm sorry I haven't been active in the thread lately. I had a major disk crash due to a lost disk array in my 'disk box'. Lost about 1,5TB that I didn't have space enough to back up. It took me almost two weeks to restore the rest of the data from all the different backups and storages. Well, well, I only lost all my series... It could have been worse. I didn't loose any family pictures or movies, and I 'm greatful for that.)
