Thanks for the clarification. But then I find the release notes for 10th AE (https://www.team-mediaportal.com/news/mediaportal-2-10th-anniversary-edition-released) kind of missleading as it says "SlimTV plugin (both NativeTV and MPExtended) has been significantly improved since Alpha 4 release"

Edit: Okay I understand now, all the changes in the changelog are the changes done since Alpha 4. I should have payed more attention to the dates.

Might be misunderstanding, but Alpha 4 was released on 2013-12-20. If you check the changelog, all dates where after this release

Okay a few notes from the last few days of testing.

1. I have set my TV-card to grab EPG data. If its grabbing EPG and I try to start TV on a client it always fails. Manually starting timeshifting in SetupTV stops the epg grabbing and starts timeshifting.

2. When I enable PiP and start a second media item the main window freezes. Eg. watch live tv in main window and play a recording in PiP window.

3. Would it be possible to add (as an option) the refreshratechanger for live tv as well? Now when I watch a recording my TV switches to 50Hz but when watching live TV it stays on 60Hz, but I think I would prefer the 50Hz also for live TV as I get the impression that the picture quality is better. (My TV can only pixel map 1920x1080@60Hz).

4. I've asked this before but will keep asking until I get an answer. DVB- and TeleText-subtitles are they already supported or are they planned to be soon?

Could be codec related, I've seen PiP window resuming after few seconds.

RRC plugin request should be better handled inside different thread (there are already bugreports for this part).

DVB subtitles should work (dvbsub2.ax of MP1 filter will be used). If it doesn't work, maybe the filter is not registered? I don't remember if it gets already loaded from file, have to check this.

Hmm...I think we have to ignore this for the moment as I cannot reproduce it now on demand. I have had issues that I cannot always start timeshifting from the client and everytime when I've looked epg grabbing has been ongoing. I will follow this and see what I kind find out. Thanks anyway.

Yes, I can explain, though I don't know if it can be brief. The last explanation I wrote for you took about an hour even though the text is not very long. Hope this will be the last question you have that I have to answer!

Only PID filter mode and custom tuning are new settings. The other settings are as with TVE 3 (idle mode is the old "when card enters idle state" setting).

PID filtering is a way of reducing the bandwidth used on the bus (eg. USB, PCI, PCIe, network) that the tuner is connected to.

When TV Server successfully tunes a channel it starts to receive a transport stream (MPEG 2 TS) from the tuner. I don't have time to explain in detail what a TS is... but in short, it is a collection of substreams (identified by PIDs), where each substream is a component of a channel. For example, a substream could be a video stream, an audio stream, a subtitles stream, an EPG stream... or many other kinds of streams. A channel is a set of one or more of these substreams linked by a PMT. Hopefully you know this already.

The TS delivered by the tuner usually contains more than one channel because broadcasters bundle their channels together to make the best use of available bandwidth. Normally TV Server will receive the full TS (ie. multiple channels) even though it may only need one channel. When PID filtering is enabled, TV Server requests and receives only the substreams required based on timeshifting and recording demand.

Why is this useful?
Well, as previously mentioned, it reduces the bandwidth used on the tuner connection (bus). This might be required - for example, when the bus bandwidth is less than the full transport stream bandwidth, which is almost always the case with USB 1 and sometimes the case with firewire. Sometimes it is only "nice to have" - for example, reducing the bandwidth used on your network.

Seems like reducing bus bandwidth is a good thing therefore PID filtering should always be enabled and the setting is not required?
Yes, that's possibly true... but for now it is available for debug. Enabling PID filtering or setting it to "auto" could cause problems so I provided the ability to disable it.

NOTE: most PCI and PCIe tuners don't support PID filtering, so the setting may have no effect.


Some tuner drivers provide a custom API/interface for tuning:

• Digital Everywhere
• DVBWorld
• Genpix [standard driver]
• Prof [USB tuners]
• TechnoTrend
• TeVii

Using that interface might be faster or more reliable than using the standard MS BDA interfaces. You can choose to try the custom tuning interface (where available) by enabling that option. If you enable that option and the interface is not available then TV Server will just use the standard BDA interface.


In general I would recommend to leave all of those settings (except maybe preloading if you like it) alone.

try to install the slimtv plugin but cant get it to work.
copied the two folders to server eg client.
opend the setup exe in the server/plugin folder.
it says no tv service start now yes/no
hit yes nothing happens and after a while i get the same pop up.
i also use mp1 but closed this in the taskmanager..
what am i doing wrong?

Tried to install on my laptop and that's also not working.
There I get the error that I have to give a host name. Tried everything but nothing works for me to get into the setup screen. Any ideas?
