I wouldn't believe it myself if someone told me.
Fact is the tevii S480 didn't manage to playback or record some german tv stations. They are Pro7, Sat1 and kabel1 (there also is a fourth station but i don't recall the name as i never watch it). These stations all belong to one company and are transmitted in the same bouquet on Astra. It is mentioned in another thread here in the forum that these stations use an encoding for their programs that differs a little bit from what is normal. TV cards like the skystar that are distributed in germany for quite a while now "know" how to cope with these stations as they are among the most important in germany. I suppose there is a special decoding routine somewhere in the driver.
Now, today a driver is not just one file but a set of files. I think that one or more files that form a bda driver have been replaced or updated when installing the skystar driver and that this gave the tevii driver the capability to handle these specially encoded stations.

No idea if what i'm saying is right or wrong. I'm not a technician so tell me if what i say is crap. I just can't figure it out another way.

Oh, i forgot to answer your question: regular skystar no HD.

AW: TeVii S480 Dual DVB-S2 HDTV PCIe supported?

Hi again guys,

i found some time to analyze what really happened, when i installed the skystar driver over my TeVii driver and suddenly had a working tuner for Pro7, Sat1 and kabel1 (all are german tv stations that gave me problems with the tevii).

I searched my system and found 15 files to be registered with the tevii s480 card. On the driver disc there are only two of them.
Therefore i thought the OS must deliver 13 files by itself. Checking the version numbers reveals that some are version 5.1.2600.something and some are 5.3.2600.something where i assume '5.1.2600' is the OS number, '5.1' being XP and '2600' being SP3, while '.something' must be the build number of the individual file.

So far so good. All files on my XP disc are version 5.1.2600.something and on disc there are at least 5 file having version number 5.3.2600.something. These files are \win\system32\bdaplgin.ax, \win\system32\drivers\kstvtune.ax, ~\kswdmcap.ax, ~\ksxbar.ax, ~\msyuv.dll, ~\PsisDecd.dll and ~\PsisRudr.ax

At the moment my theory is that the installation program for the skystar drivers delivered newer versions for the above files and that this solved my problem. :)

Is anyone running this stable in Windows 7 x86, cause i cant get it stable at all, no matter what i try. I scan and get no signal on some transponders, i then scan again and get signal on some transponders i did not get signal before, but now it says no signal on other transponders instead. I cant get through a scan with signal on all transponders at all.
Off course this makes it unusable to use to watch TV with since i cant trust it to lock signal when changing channel.
This IS NOT only in TV Server, so no logs at the moment since i don't use the card right now.
Any help would be very welcomed.

    Hi pellegj

I recently got one of these and it works fine... but I'm using it in XP. Have you plugged in the power connector?

    Hi mm1352000!
Thx for you're (very) quick reply!
Yes, i have the connector plugged in, i only got the card after reading this thread (since I started it) and figured it would work. It did not, so i thought I wait for new drivers, but that have not helped either.
So i figured that after all some people have this card and are using it, so perhaps i could get some help from them.
At the moment I'm back to my TT connect USB S2-3600 with the problems i have with them in TV Server (can't lock on to S2 signal with SR 30000) "never reported them here since i use the (not allowed to talk about plugin), so not being able to provide logs here".
I have tried all the different drivers for the S480 i can find, but nothing seems to help.

    Hi again

Yes, i have the connector plugged in...
    Okay. :)
You mentioned you have problems in other software too so it could be a hardware defect I guess. It is difficult for me to say anything more without logs.

It is possible that this is a hardware limit. Older and especially USB DVB-S2 tuners are sometimes not able to handle the higher symbol rates. You *could* post logs - the rule is that you must be able to reproduce the problem without that plugin. Just disable the plugin and then perform a scan of a transponder that you are not able to receive, then post logs.

Just a few notes to this pesky S480.
I've setup a HTPC for my mum last week. After finish we've watched some episodes of 'Breaking Bad', when suddenly Windows kicked the bucket with a BSOD. After reading this thread I've pulled the memory.dmp and chucked it into windbg, Faulty module pointed to TeViiS2. Since tevii's webpage wasn't responding for a few days I installed a beta driver from may this year which SHOULD fix BSOD/S3 issues.. Apperently not. Now I've installed Driver.20110727 and it solved the BSOD-issue but still acts weird, like dropped signals, long tuning and all the other neat bells 'n whistles.. Dish is pointing to 19.2°E.
Since I'm using FTR's Argus, I don't think that an issue related to TV Server or Argus but purely bad hardware design or crappy driver.
I should have read this thread earlier and ordered dome other card like Digital Devices or technisat... :(

What about those TBS-Base cards? Do they work well, read: Bullet proof?

Somehow you should be able to see what version of the card you have. It seems that with 1.x there are many problems. I bought mine from dvbshop.net and gonna return to get a new 2.1 version.

I would've bought at dvbshop, which I preffer anyway, but the card is still out of stock. I bought mine/mums at hm-sat.de. Let's se what I could do remotely. :D

Hi, you could return the card within two weeks after purchasing it and you get the money back. This evening I received a TBS 6981 since I had BSOD troubles all the time with my SATIX Mystique Dual S2 and the first tests are looking good. Everything worked out of the box so far.
