For Audio codec for everything, really would suggest FFDShow, including for AC3 sound, just seems to work flawlessly compared to all other codecs and has solved some related issues to those you are having, this is just a after thought.

Also run filmerit (link in sig) and see if any filter\codec errors are found, padlock button unlocks to allow repair.

You either need FFDShow Tryouts, xvid or divx codecs installed, personally use either the Vista code pack or cccp one (these are both FFDShow based), either are very good, but the cccp one is smaller, but has fewer options against VCP, which is very good at making sure registry entries for codecs are correct.

FFD tryouts and xvid and divx codecs are installed. I have XP MCE 2005 will VCP work for XP. Have just uninstaled/cleaned re-installed ATi 8.7 and Avivo codecs. I am leaving BBC HD on play and will post log if it fails.

VCP works with XP\Vista, I have to use this on my vista installation otherwise i get no thumbnails, if using xp (dualboot) everything works for me with cccp !!

Divx still throws out a M$ error when using mce, even the latest version.

As far as xvid\ffdshow is concerned, never seen a quality difference between the two.

still so far so good with the BBC HD , wife is watching last choir standing...

Why will Media player player the Divx files but not Mediaportal?

CPU is still running at 50% though which is high? I only have a selection for Ati Mpeg under H264 there used to be one for Ati H264 decoder. It might be the 8.7 catalyst drivers but no-one else seems to have the problem...

ATI and problems, wow they really go together those two.

We have Devs\testers that have tried ATI and because of issues, switched to Nvidia and their problems went away (Picture quality not as good is a constant comment though).

ATI have got there hardware right, just not the drivers to do them justice, maybe one day :), just hope the waits not that long.
