It seems the target version has been changed to 1.0.1 for this issue.

Sad to see as it is a major flaw in my opinion that limits intuitive use (usability) of MediaPortal a lot.
I'm especially concerned about people who are just getting started with MediaPortal or who don't want to invest a lot of time into "learning" the way the application works (e.g. girlfriends/wives).

But anyway: Better late than never!

Since some months ago I also made a kind of graphical workaround (a small arrow that shows the beginning of the timeframe).
Hope there will be a solution soon. IMO it shouldn´t be that difficult to change the timeframe from a centered display to a left-aligned one.

    Indeed.
why don't we just postpone this 'issue' till MP version 2.0. (This is meant a bit sarcastic ofcourse) Because this is starting to get ridiculous in a funny way.
There are probably numerous reasons for doing this (and all good ones).

    From mediaportal Bugtracker.

I really don't want to step on anybodies toes, and I am honestly not bothered that much with the guide as it is. For me it is indeed a trivial thing. I am merely making an observation here and asking a question about it. I don't want my post to be misread or invoke emotional responses.

Is the set deadline for MP release 1.01 the cause for postponing this issue to a later version? Or is there a much more important reason for this.

I hope it stays the way it is

I see there are a lot of you that don't like the way this works. Of those people, how many have a cable receiver box, or satellitte receiver with an EPG that works differently than the way MP does now?

Where I am, the receiver from my cable company (Rogers) works the way MP does now. My brother has Bell satellitte service, & I'm almost positive the guide on that works the same way as Rogers cable boxes do. The labels at the top, are not showing points in time, but are labelling time slots. Look at the 9 o'clock time slot to see what's on 900-9:30 seems natural to me.

Looking at the EPG pics by some of you in Europe, I can understand why this is not ideal. It seems that over there shows are started at whatever time they want, with very little alignment. I find looking at your EPG pics somewhat disorienting.

Over here, 95% of programming starts & ends on the 1/2 hour marks. Pretty much the only exceptions are pay TV movie channels that will stop/start on the 1/4 hour marks.

Maybe the MP code that inserts the times into the bar can be changed to either put something like <<<18:00 or
18:00-18-30 instead of putting 18:00, & leave the alignment alone or at least make it a toggle setting for centered or on the breaks.

I am now used to the time alignment, although it did take a bit of time to get used to it (no pun intended). Some of the ideas being discussed sound like they would make life easier, and likely increase the WAF as well :D

The 3 ideas I like are:
    1. left-aligning the time within the 30-min boxes
    2. place a time range in the 30-min boxes as per x4mer's suggestion
    3. the thin vertical line showing the current time - although the top and bottom arrows satisfy this functionality already, so not as important IMHO.

Could these ideas (and possibly others) be included as 'options' in the TV server configuration? For example (numbers match the numbers above):
    1. Alignment of EPG time bar text: left or centre
    2. If left alignment is selected, keep it as a single time indicating the beginning of the half-hour. If centre is selected, include the time range (beginning-end of the half-hour). This could probably be implemented as an if-then based on the selected alignment, rather than a configurable 'option'...
    3. EPG current time indicator: top/bottom arrows or vertical line (or both?)

That way people can tweak the look of their EPG to the way they prefer and understand best.

Lastly, kudos to all the developers of this awesome application. Great job! :D

This is merely a question of editing the graphics in the skin. MediaStream has this line already, so it's up to the skinner.

for all as information this is fixed in actual SVN - so in the next SVN release the slider will be positioned as suggested. I've already tested it - works fine.

    Whoop!

Been waiting for this, one of those annoying little issues that once you spot the first time you just cannot stop noticing it. Thanks manfred for the fix :D
