I did a bit more research on the forums and figured i'd give the last suggestion a try - even though i didn't see why it would solve the problem.
Since both MS SQL Server and MySQL Server installations were failing i figured it would be something general doing it, but it turned out i could get it to work when i deleted the db and the lock file in the MS SQL Server data folder. So anyways - i don't see why MySQL installtion wouldn't work, but after deleting the two files i could get the MS SQL installation work and now i'm happy
