Wouldn't it be enough to add a smal USB DVB-T tuner, and then use a short wire as antenna? At least in areas with DVB-T

At least that could be used to pinpoint some crash spots, but verifying the fixes is not optimal. My assumption is that there are quirer many separate bugs in the code that are able to cause a crash on weak signal / corrupted streams.
