Anyhow, w/t logs there's not much support that I can get I'd guess...

No, I'm afraid not - we really can't guess what logic the TV Server is using in a situation like this.

Do you not have network access to the HTPC? If you do then surely you could take control of the HTPC for 1 minute to share the log directory on your network. That way you can access the logs in future without needing to take over the HTPC from whoever is using it. The log directories are:

XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\log\
Vista/7 = C:\ProgramData\Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal TV Server\log\
(reference)

Note: those are hidden folders, so you'll need to paste the folder into windows explorer or enable viewing of hidden files and folders (instructions: XP, Vista, 7).

Ok here are the logs of my last session. I don't think that they're self explanatory of what I did so I'll try to explain...

First I had both my tuners connected and all my channels mapped to the first tuner, but it refused to play. Then I disconnected the 2nd tuner restarted the TV service and magically everything was playing fine. After that I reconnected the second tuner (and restarted the service) and we were back to where we started.

I had enough so I mapped all my channels on the second tuner and unmapped them from the first. Now everything was playing fine, even though I had both tuners connected. The problem is that the second tuner ALWAYS initializes first, even when I tell it not to, that's quite serious...

In other words when both tuners are connected only the second work. When they 're seperated both work. That's a problem exclusive to MP, Windows media center could play both the tuners no problem (even when both were connected at the same time).

With the aid of the logs and your description I can now see exactly what is going on.

The technical explanation of why that is happening too complex to explain but basically TV Server is failing to initialise the "IT9135" tuner when you have the ATI one installed. There is a patch that I would like you to try as I fixed a *very* similar problem with AF9015 tuners for MP 1.2.0 (I suspect your IF9135 is based on the next generation chip from the same manufacturer).

The patch for MP 1.1.3 is -->here<--.
Instructions for using it are:

1. Stop TV Server.
2. Take a backup of the TVLibrary.dll in your TV Server install folder.
3. Download and extract the TVLibrary.dll from the patch into your TV Server install folder.
4. Start TV Server.
5. Test whether the problems still occur.

With any luck, the problems will be resolved and you'll be able to use both tuners simultaneously.

Now my question is why's this fix not embedded on MediaPortal settings (as an option) for those unfortunate souls that have 2 tuners that dislike each other? (also would it work for MP 1.2.0 if I'd ever feel the need to make the move?)


Oh and one more thing (last I hope). Can I have my first Tuner give its signal *exclusively* to my TV (my main client). And to refuse to give signal to a second client even if it's free?

i.e. I want to have the second tuner seeding it's signal to the network, or used for recorded purposes (while the first is locked to my TV).

We only became aware of the problem shortly after MP 1.2.0a was released (which was also after 1.1.3 was released I think). Anyhow, the fix is included in MP 1.2.0b (and any future versions). You don't have to do any configuration or install additional patches - it should just work.

No you can't do that... at least not in any way that I can think of. I'm not sure that I completely understand why you would want to do that either. If you want the first tuner to only be used for the TV then you may as well set up a dedicated TV Server with the first tuner for the TV, and use the other tuner in a second TV Server.
