Does SP3 have a history of screwing things up with MP maybe?

Well I was told I *had& to upgrade to SP3 to get rid of a different error, so it really should work BEST under SP3...

I'm guessing it must have something to do with either the drivers for the 8200 or something with the motherboard manufacturer. I just know my exact hardware setup worked under SP2 but won't under SP3... but I don't know enough about what SP3 actually changes to know where to start looking :)

Have you tried a BIOS update? That's about the last thing I can think to even try...

Yeha all my drivers are the latest possible versions...except the BIOS. Might give that a shot - it's just weird that so far XBMC is running like a dream (though I don't know much about how either are written so they way they work could be totally different)

The real bummer is all the hardware is BRAND new, and MP has worked on it before under XP and W7 Beta. I might actually try a different copy of XP...

I'm suffering from an indentical problem. Installed MP 1.0.2 on a fresh install of XP SP3 and when I open Configuration.exe the splash screen displays, everything appears to load OK then the splash fades out and the computer hangs. Task manager shows Configuration.exe using 99% CPU.

I have tried re-downloading, re-installing, installting without TV service, even re-installing ANOTHER fresh XP and the problem persists.

I've attached the log zip although I can't even get the files to unzip (another bug?).

Key specs:
MediaPortal Version: 1.02
MediaPortal Skin: Default
Windows Version: XP SP3
CPU Type: AMD Athlon 3000+
HDD: 640GB Caviar Blue - WD6400AAKS
Memory: 1GB DDR2
Motherboard: Foxconn 6100K8MA-RS
Video Card: ATI X800XT
Video Card Driver: Catalyst 8.9 - tried latest also
Sound Card: Onboard Realtek

The problem was caused by using a slipstreamed copy of XP SP3 with nonessential components removed. Unfortunately, apparently one of those "nonessential components" is essential for MP :)

I am going to dig out my original XP disc and just go through the long process of downloading all the updates (which for a pre-SP1 disc, is a LOT!)... but at least then I'm betting it will work just fine :)

I've probably made things harder for myself but I'm switching to Linux, XBMC and MythTV.

Though I have discovered over the weekend that the PCI slots on my Motherboard are dead. Figured it out after 4hours of troubleshooting :-(

    ALL of them?

Yup! Seems the chipset or something is gone...though other than them everything else is fine :-(

Lol, totally forgot that despite us narrowing down the problem, it might actually be something the developers might want to look into/or fix.

Unfortuantely XP is long gone on my system so I cannot get them :sorry:

I can however tell you what "non-essential" components of XP have been removed to possibly narrow it down further? Once I'm home of course - can't really do it at work ;)
