I am running version 1.0.1.0 and am wondering if updating to a newer version will cause me to have to update the cover art or any other problems. Any benefits to doing so?
IIRC, you will have to do a clean install since you are using such an old version.
From the 1.2.2 release notes:
If you are running MediaPortal 1.2.0 Alpha or earlier, then none of your extensions (plugins and skins) will work after the upgrade to 1.2.0! You must update your extensions after the upgrade!
But I definitely think it is worthwhile. I might take you an hour or two to get everything configured again. But there were lots of bug fixes and lots of new features since 1.0.1. If you want more detail, I suggest you read all the news history related to releases since 1.0.1 and then decide your action. That will give you a good overview of major changes and bug fixes.
And when you run the latest version, future upgrades will be smooth since settings will be kept in tact.
Blimey 1.0.1 - that is an old version, I would definitely update!!!
Just to echo what rekenaar said, it will definitely take a bit of work to do the fresh install and most importantly - none of your existing plugins will work anymore.
I suggest you write down all of the plugins that you have installed (and actually use) and download the new versions before you start. It might even be worth deleting all the old plugins from the old system before you start the new installation, otherwise you will have a long list of non-compatible plugins listed in your plugin section.
There is no reason why all your thumbs and fanart won't carry across to the new installation.
Hi.
I was probably being a bit fast and loose with my terminology. I meant "somewhere within the files that MP2 uses in its database".
Anyway, I found a way to do this which was far from automated but relatively low effort. I found what looked like all the images (CD covers, DVD covers, backgrounds etc all lumped together in...

A little confusion for me here!
There are 2 x files in the folder......one is x86, and other is x64
Wondering if I should be selecting the x64.....since I'm installing the 64bit version?
UPDATE Transferred both files to the destination folder, and labelled appropriately. This way...

O Frabjous Joy!
That seems to have done the trick.
Thank you so much for your help and advice, CyberSimian. I hadn't thought of deleting the various folders, but I'll bear that in mind for any future disasters. Now I can record King & Conqueror on Sunday!
Cheers
Ralph

Can anyone tell me the step-by-step procedure for bringing up a second channel in pip mode? I can only do it sometimes, after many tries, and it’s not clear what I am doing that makes it work on those occasions when it does. Cannot find guidance on the site.
Thanks, N.
Again, if anyone knows how to do this, would be much...
