With SVN 12670 i've included an option which allows you Upmixing of Stereo sound to 5.1 / 7.1.
This functionality should be mainly used by those users which connect their PC directly to surround speakers without the use of an AV Receiver.

It works only when BASS is enabled as the audio engine.

As a default it is disabled.
    Enable it in:
Configuration -> Music -> Player Settings

    check "Upmix Stereo to 5.1 / 7.1"

    feedback is appreciated.

    thx,

    Helmut

    Hi hwahrmann.
Just tested this and it's great, thank you !!!
    Just 2 questions :
    - With AVR, signal is in PCM mode, right ?
I could see that 7.1 speaker was able to play music in this mode.
    - Is is normal that, I can't see graph in graphedit, with music played ?

If you choose BASS over the internal player (directshow) i guess you wont see a graph since it only shows DS-filter based ones [which BASS seems not to be)

smnnekho is right. BASS is not a DShow application, so you won't see any filters.

Yes, with AVR the signal is in PCM Mode.

The Upmixing feature should be mainly used, when the PC is connected directly to the Speakers.
When using a Receiver, you'd probably leave it uncjecked and let the Receiver to the task.

by the way it works AWESOME for me (-; in fact, although i have a receiver. but its a pretty old one without analoug inputs. so i have to use a cable for each channel.

    exactly what i needed ´(;

Yes Helmut, only tested for users without AVR, I plugged cinchs from little amplified PC speakers in each output of audio card to listen if music was here in all ways and, this is OK :)
Great, will put this information for french users ;)
For AVR, I use ffdshow, DD all the time.
    Thanks.

Does it have any effect on spdif output? I mean, is there an AC3 output (Dolby, DTS or what)?

I have a pro-logic receiver, but I'd prefer to have 5.1 channel out directly from HTPC.

    F.

I'm simply mixing up the 2 stereo channels.
Stereo Left is assigned to all other speakers on the Left side.
Stereo Right is assigned to all other speakers on the Right side.

I don't do any magic in endocing to Ac3 or something like that.

If you have the htpc connected via spdif, i would let the pro-logic receiver do the job.
