[confirm] Video freezes when the Menu button is pressed - Audio continues for a bit (1 Viewer)

Hi Christer,

Yeah, I tried VRM9, it fixes the DVD problems, however it then breaks my AVI/DIVX/MTS/etc playback (audio works but video is blank) :-(

Have you tried playback of your problem DVD's in MPC-HC and PowerDVD directly? It works fine for me which I think indicates it is a MediaPortal bug and not a funny DVD menu. Also the problem only started for me with RC1, was it the same with you?

I'm thinking of going back to the 8-Jan-10 SVN to restore some WAF, but I'm holding on just incase any of the MP bug fixing wizards want any more details off me. Seems a bit quiet though, not sure what the next step is; I don't think I can add this to Mantis (bug tracking) myself and don't want to cross-post on the forum to try and get more attention.

For me it's not on all DVD's, but when it fails it also fails in mpc-hc. I've had this before, on 1.1.0 Beta-something and was waiting for RC where it looked like it worked at the beginning. Unfortunately I have no idea if I changed anything that could have messed something up and now I've changed alot, dxva, codecs etc.

It loads the movie up until I choose a meny button, then it freezes. Be it Play movie, or Setup, or Language.

Edit: Images of DVDs, for a while I thought it was .isos that crashed but it is also .img.

Because it's happening outside MP your problem may be more related to codec's than a MP bug (although I have seen the same problem you describe in MP). You might want to try tools like GraphEdit and a Codec Filter Manager tool to check the health of your codec's.

Clean install Win 7, Saf rc2, MP rc1 etc. Checked Graph edit, got graph connected (and sound in MP) no pic though.

In WMR9, uncheck "Use exclusive mode...." Maybe that will help

Replace Dshowhelper.dll with the one from 01-08 svn

Unfortunately that didn't resolve my problem. Still hangs (or freezes for minutes, I really don't know as I'm a bit too impatiant to wait more than a minute) with the new dshowhelper.

Thanks Crister, VRM9 still gave the same result when run with Exclusive mode off - all my troublesome DVD's started working fine, but my AVI's didn't work.

I tried the old SVN dshowhelper and that was the same result as well; the DVD which gave me problems at the start of this post (Phantom of the Opera) still works but the DVD I tried to watch a few days later (Thin Blue Line - Series 1) still doesn't work. I can't be sure that the Thin Blue Line DVD would have worked under the SVN version as it's been about 6 months since I last tried to watch it.

I experience the same freezes very often. DVD menu just does not work in MP properly - when I select some item in DVD menu, the picture very often freezes and I hear only sound. I have to kill MP and restart it. This happens with original DVDs. The same DVD I can play with no difficulties in WMP.

Additionally, if I use ffdshow video decoder, the menu is shown correctly but the highlited item is displaced several pixels to the right and down.

I'm on W7, MP1.1 RC1 and using ATI 4550.

Guys, try to remove "Anyxxx" and use "xxx43" on the fly decrypter. After some reseach i found that DVDs riped by "Anyxxx" causing freeze of GB-PVR - similar problem can be related to MP.
Still it is working OK in MPC-HC...
