Hi, I'm using MP 0.2.3.0 with a Gyration Remote - works using the MCE Remote config settings. I'm having problems using the Slider. How is this supposed to be controlled? When I do get to it, it jups forward in large steps - maybe 1min intervals. I then find it tedious to use the Fwd Bk buttons to nav to the point I want to Cut.
Would you kindly provide a bit more description on how to use this editor
    Many Thanks

    Hi mckzoo,

Small tutorial can be found in first post:
The slider should be used for fast browsing through your file and the back and forward button to make 1 second steps.

Do you have any suggestions how to improve this?

Also if I inadvertently run to the end of the video file, it locks up, the counter resets to zero and I can't scroll back at all. Basically i have to quit te edit and start again.

This is a known issue that still exists.:(

The problem as I see it is to do with the ability to swiftly scroll through the recording and then pick the right point to Start/End.
The Slider is a good idea however it is quite course meaning as it steps fwd in approx 1 min intervals. Then using the Fwd/Bk keys is tedious as they only step in 1 sec intervals. Whats worse is the Bk key is fighting against the fwd direction of the video, so 1 sec steps become even less.
    My suggestions
1/ Increase the step interval of the Fwd/Bk keys to 5 or 10 secs. What would be better would be , Hold down the keys to jump continuously in 5 or 10 sec intervals, and Click the key to jump in 1 sec intervals
2/ Make the skip interval for the Fwd / Back keys customizable. eg so Fwd = 5 sec, Back = 10 sec steps
3/ Provide some Keyboard keys to perform the above functions ie Page keys to jump in large increments, Arrow key in small. Holding down the Key to jump continuously, clicking to make single steps
4/ If the issue with getting to the end of file is a problem, is there some way to stop the scrolling a few seconds before the EOF to prevent the lockup. Maybe this could also be a Customizable setting.
5/ Customizable settings accessible from the Pluin configuration screen in MP Setup.
6/ Change the navigation required to get to the Slider. I have to scroll through the on screen buttons to get to it before being able to use it. Then if you use the Fwd/Bk buttons you have to navigate back to the slider to enable it before you're able to use it. It would be much easier if the slider is enable or driven by the FFwd / FBk keys for example without having to first select it - or is this just the way I'm using it ?

I'd be happy to be able to edit the recording to within 5 sec, 1 sec is a very small step. This is a small loss in the recording to gain significantly in speed of editing.

    Hope this helps

    Just thought of something else.
I'd be happy to do all this editing with a standard keyboard if that makes the editing process faster. To that end it would be useful to use certain keys to perform the navigation functions and eg S, E, A to perform the Start , End , Add functions. It would be great if the file navigation could be done with the Rt hand on the Pg,Arrow keys and the S,E, A done with the Left hand

Hope this helps - and thanks for all the effort you've put in to get this Plugin going.
    Cheers

Great plugin, i use it to cut all my movies nowadays. But ofcourse we all want to improve it a little :)

Customizeble skip stps would be nice, since I notice we have different opinions on the skip.

I also like the idea of having different speedsif you press vs you hold it down.

6/ Change the navigation required to get to the Slider. I have to scroll through the on screen buttons to get to it before being able to use it.

    * Another idea would be to map the remote numberpad to the Videoeditor keys.
    Eg 1 = Backward key (as it is top right), 2 = slider, 3= FF, 4 = Start, 5 =end, 6 = Add

    * I miss being able to paus the movie. I can paus but as soon as I move the slider or FF the movie starts again. Since it takes a second or two to get to the Add key I often miss the right clip and have to do it again.

    * There is a bug when Removing original file. When I press Yes, MP closes down and the log says the original file is already in use.

    Ohh, I almost forgot...

I read in the Transcoder thread that you were thinking of integrating parts in Videoeditor.

It would be so nice if, when I am done with marking the cut-clips I could then also choose Transcoder profile and add the finished cut movie to the transcoding process scheduler.

    No sound after cutting mpeg-file

First of all I would like to thank you for a useful plugin. I have, however, encountered a problem editing mpg-files with My VideoEditor: There is no sound in the output file! I have tried to play the output file with both AC3 Filter and MPA audio decoders, but the result is the same - no sound. I have also played the file in WMP, but no sound there either. The original mpg-file plays fine with sound and everything.

Also, I would like to know what is required to transcode mpg->divx. I haven't succeeded in doing that either.

    Best regards,
    Tomas

Cutting a newly recorded mpg-file worked fine with sound and all. I still need to know what is required to transcode to divx, though. VideoEditor says it is done in about 1 sec and asks me if I want to delete the original file, but there is no divx-file.

1.You need to install MEncoder (produced by the people behind MPlayer). Google it.
2.In MP setup, choose configure for the Viedeoeditor plugin and browse to the folder where you installed MEncoder.

thats it, I hope it will help you tomas.

I have not fiffled with the settings, so I don not know how to change them, since I use the transcoder plugin to convert to divx.

this one must be fixed befor the release of 0.2.3.0 final!

    no active developer?
if so, then we might have to remove it if it contains more major issues and noone is available to fix it.

Where is that file from? Did you record the files with MediaPortal?
Does it mean that it's working now with MediaPortal recordings?

Please also take a look at first page for futher information. There is even a download link to a Mencoder version that works.

Please unzip the mencoder.exe into your MediaPortal folder.
If you got mencoder already on your system, you can change the path to mencoder in VideoEditor configuration.

I recommend for Video and Audio to use medium quality.

This is an issue but no major bug,
No major bug can be confirmed right now, so you can calm down.
Kaybe is still around, but he's in portugal for business for a while, that's why he has not that much time right now.
VideoEditor can still be used as usual for editing recordings made with MediaPortal.
It's in daily use here and still works fine.:)
And it seems a lot of people like to use it, too.

Problems by some users need to be proofed and further improvements are still to come.

I got an idea for further improvement if more people ike the idea...

I often cut recorder movies 5-10 seconds after the "credit-texts" starts rolling.
This ofcourse create an abrupt ending including the sound.

Would it be possible to develop a feature so the user can choose to end the last cut with a "fade video (to black) and audio" ? Just a thought...

Ps. infinitiloop - as Ralph said there are no major bugs what I have noticed. The plugin works really well and should not be removed. Ofcourse a nice plugin deserves to be be even better by user suggestions.

I am not sure. I think it is from an old MP recording, but I am not 100% sure.

I installed mencoder as above and it appears to be working as advertised. Haven't tried it out that much yet, though.

This is definitely a good plugin and I believe it should stay. It seems my issues have been related to old mpg-files or not reading instructions carefully enough.

    Best regards,

    Tomas
