Or even better: have this option rule based.
IIRC AutoCropper has this option already.

I am using SVN 1.0 version 21813 and this plugin does not work. Rules cannot be changed to viewmodes. If you select one and press ok, it changes to another one.
Any chance of a new compatible version?

Configure VideoModeSwitcher independent

Hello Lkuech,

I installed and tested your plugin and it works in general, but there is one point I cannot achieve:

I have implemented two rules as you described: 4:3 and 16:9. I have entered the resolution in the rules which
are displayed in the log file of Mediaportal: (768 x 576 and 544 x 576 for example comedy central or Tele5)

The problem I have is that the plugin seems to check only the resolution of the TV-Signal and switches to the
defined videomode. On some broadcasts there is a letterbox and on some there is no letterbox.
But VideoModeSwitcher seems not to care about that.

My goal is to achieve that the reglime does the following:

Example:

There is a 768 x 576 (16:9) Signal on a TV-Channel. So the Switcher should switch to "Strech".

THEN IF there is a letterbox detected on a 768 x 576 (16:9) Signal, the Switcher should switch to "Zoom" Mode.

Something like this:

1) Check the resolution:

2) IF Resolution = 544 x 576 THEN Switch to "Strech" Mode

AFTER THAT:

3) IF Letterbox = true THEN Switch to "Zoom" Mode.

4) If Letterbox = false THEN Switch to "Strech" Mode again.

At the moment I cannot see any option to differentiate between the detected Resolution and the detected letterbox.

This is exactly the feature I am missing. If it were possible to set a view mode per rule dependent on the result of the letterbox detection I would never have to touch the remote for an aspect ratio change again . With my current setup I need to switch manually to "zoom mode" for letterbox movies.

But maybe I have configured something wrong ...

maybe the developer "lkuech" can say something about that. From my point of view, this plugin doesn´t provide this function. I think you are missing exactely the same function as me.

It does not make much sense to make the letterbox detection dependent on the Screen resolution.
There are enough TV-broadcasts which have a 16:9 format BUT still letterboxes on screen. So if the plugin would switch automatically to the zoom setting, that would be great.

@ lkuech: I´m sorry, I´m not a programmer, but couldn´t you develov something in that way!? It seems to be I´m not alone for the request of this feature....

Hello hirscho and jimbeam128,

you both seem to have a faulty configuration. The plugin is designed for exactly that purpose. It tests the video stream for aspect ratio and resolution independently. Let me explain that in more detail. As you already stated there are various resolutions used for 4:3 broadcasts (e.g. 720x576 and 544x576; 768x576 is not used by ANY channel at all). Although resolutions are different, aspect rations are identical. Widescreen broadcasts are always 720x576.

So I have defined the following rules:
SD 4:3 (544x576-720x576; AR 1,32-1,34; letterbox detection enabled)
SD 16:9 (720x576-720x576; AR 1,76-1,78)
HD (1280x500-1920x500)

Letterbox detection automatically changes to "Zoom" without me pressing one single button on my remote, if a 4:3 letterbox broadcast is detected. This way, it displays letterbox content completely filling the screen without any distortion.
Letterbox detection and 16:9 broadcasts? Does not make sense. I know there may still be black bars on 16:9 broadcasts. This is called cinemascope then, having an AR of 2.66:1. But why would anyone want to zoom that? The picture would then be distorted! My Philips TV does that, but I wish it wouldn't.

So, the plugin does exactly what you guys want. I recomment you to fiddle around with the configuration a bit, and you will get it working soon .

Thanks for describing you configuration. But how do you differentiate between
- SD 4:3 (544x576-720x576) --> "smart zoom"
- SD 4:3 Letterbox (544x576-720x576) --> "zoom"

My configuration was like this:
1) SD 4:3 Letterbox (544x576-720x576, Letterbox detection on) --> "zoom"
2) SD 4:3 (544x576-720x576) --> "smart zoom"
3) Fallback rule: "normal zoom"

and this would cover everthing for me.

I thought VMS would work like this:
1) Search for first rule where AR and resolution fits
2) If ok and letterbox detection is on and true --> change AR
3) If not goto next rule where AR and resolution fits

My testing has shown that step 3) is not done. Now let's assume the AR mode is set to zoom and a standard 4:3 signal is detected, than VMS would never switch to "smart mode".

Hi,

I assume you want smart zoom (aka super stretch) on normal 4:3 broadcasts and zoom when 4:3 letterbox is detected? If so then...

- SD 4:3 (544x576-720x576) --> "smart zoom"
- SD 4:3 Letterbox (544x576-720x576) --> "zoom"

...just delete the second rule, keep the first and tick the letterbox detection checkbox there.
What will happen?
1. 544x576-720x576 is detected: change zoom mode to "super strech"
2. black bars at top and bottom?
2.1 no: keep current zoom mode
2.2 yes: switch zoom mode to zoom after the specified delay and X successfull letterbox detections (X is a number of your choice)

Having two rules for the same resolution is causing the problem in this case.

EDIT: The fallback rule becomes effective if a video/broadcast does not fit into one of your rules (this applies to any 16:9 stuff, for instance, if the above-named are the only rules you have defined).
