Vista or Xp? Three letters E V R Nuff said!

To me the world does not seem that simple. ;)
EVR is nice, however I did not see any improvments in PQ.

Beside that EVR is also working under XP, Provided Framework.Net 3.5 isinstalled and the hardware is capable.. I had it running for a while with EVR selected in Mediaportal under XP, and seemed to work fine.

If you can REALLY see any difference on a 19" LCD I'll be amazed ;)

Don't even see any on my 50" Plasma.
EVR under XP is no option due to missing DXVA support.

What also sucks under Vista is you will only get bitperfect audio using ASIO and not with normal DX

I agree on the visual aspect using EVR, even in xp, you just need the cpu\gpu to be able to use without hardware acceleration.

Have'nt you learnt yet, size does not matter, its quality that counts ;)

XP = Footprint < 500 MB and RAM-usage < 90 MB on fresh install. You can run XP on a 2 GB CF-card, even with some extra room for the page-file. Try that with Vista ;)

IMHO the advantages in Vista are on the desktop-level - running a HTPC should just be done on the system with less bloat. Picture quality has never been an issue for me, I see no tearing in VMR 9 and to me the colorspace seems to be handled ok i VMR 9, at least I cannot see any difference when comparing output from my HTPC (XP) to my laptop (Vista).

The DXVA 2.0 support should theoretically take load off the CPU, but when I can play a BluRay-movie with an average of 15% CPU I don't know what to do with this "advantage". Perhaps when we get something like Quad-FullHD

One advantage is that you can get more than two channels out of an HDMI-connection - on XP you are restricted to DD or DTS. I use a dedicated soundcard so...
