The FX5200 is a DX9 card. Donæt know about its DXVA capabilities, though...

That's interesting that yours hasn't crashed with the acceleration off. On the other hand, mine (also a 5200) hasn't crashed for some time either (which is why I haven't posted any crash log yet). I've read a few comments about the DX9 support on the FX5000 series being a bit odd (not fully hardware supported?) but as I said before the picture quality on my PCI 5200 card is way superior to the on-board 6100, so I'm reluctant to change over.

I also don't want to change hardware. On the one hand I don't like the idea of getting a probably outdated AGP card for my system, on the other hand others with newer graphics have simliar problems, see Crashes trying to change channel.

Also tried to find something out regarding DXVA acceleration of the FX5000 series. Makes me a bit nervous that it is not listed in the PDF I linked above. Read also some rumors that Forceware emulates some DXVA features on cards that do not support everything in hardware.

Just reviewed CPU usage on my system watching TV:
    • Hardware Acceleration off: ~30-40%
    • Hardware Acceleration on: ~15%

OK, my MP hung tonight - but I don't think it was the normal problem. This time a "no signal detected" error appeared when it hung, but otherwise the symptoms were the same (picture froze, then sound froze a few seconds later, then had to reboot). I was watching live TV, but timeshifted by 10 minutes.

For what it's worth, here's the log (from MediaPortal.log)
    Code:

The error.log didn't seem to have anything recorded - the error.bak stopped at 21:00 and the error.log started at 21:29.

You are showing mainly DX errors, but also in your MP log when playing a DVD there are a lot of filter errors as well.

Could you run filmerit and see if there are any exceptions shown.

Also have had MPV screw up my system, so may be worthwhile making a new instal of 0.2.3.0 without it being installed along with MP.

What about those DX errors? Is it worth the effort to have a developer look at it? Currently I disabled VMR exclusive mode with hw acceleration on to see if that helps.

There are some exceptions, see the screenshot below. Three are caused by ksproxy.ax and two by unknown files. I'll try to fix it with filmerit.

Thought about this and will try it without installing MPV. But this doesn't help with the DX errors I suppose?

filmerit fixed the errors and shows now everything is ok. You mentioned filter errors, which lines did you mean? I'd like to see if those errors are gone now.

    Current status on this issue:
Had no crashes so far with
    • Purevideo Hardware Acceleration on
    • VMR exclusive mode off

So in contrary to my thoughts here the crashes are caused by the VMR setting.

I too have been having exactly the same crashes.. im also running the nvidia 5200.

Ive run Filmerit and thats fixed a few errors here and there, how do I turn off the VMR exclusive mode?

EDIT: I have found this option (its in Direct Show Filter Control > Video Mixing Renderer 9 Settings in case anyone wants to)

My other question is whats the best options to have in here..i.e. what filtering mode works best?

What about this Enhance Video Renderer?

hardware acceleration is turned on in the PURE video codec

    Thanks for your input wallywalts.

Don't know what exactly what the different modes do. Are these used if VMR9 exclusive mode is turned off?

EVR cannot be used with VMR9 exclusive mode. Maybe this is worth reading: https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/evr_winxp-t31119.html?t=31119

Here's what I have found in the Wiki about this topic:

    @all
Someone else with the same problem? Could it be a problem in the VMR code of MediaPortal? If it is a driver problem it must be very old since I'm currently using even older driver 84.21 as written here.

I'd be happy to do more testing if someone has a hint for me.
