I think this should be filled as a bug, it will eventually result in low volume with users. A solution would be the custom scale integrated as a special Vista select in setup.

Hello,

I´ve got the same problem. Of course using Vista too. You can turn up the volume to maximum by holding shift and turning volume up. It works only with the keyboard, but better than restarting MP for turning up the volume :)

Hi,

The Shift may operate to "speed" the Volume up function. On my machine I have the same issue but once it's stuck down I can use my logitec keyboard which has a volume dial to get the volume up. The point on the Shift & volume control is that I have to turn the dial about 3 to 10 times to get each single bar up on the OSD. It seems to require more turns the closer I get to 100% I hope this helps. The fact that I can turn the dial a lot faster than the repeat rate from the remote might mean that if we're really patient the volume will go up very slowly.

Thanks

Same problem here with Vista Home Basic & Premium. This used to work fine in XP SP2. The volume does not go down or up everytime I press the - or = key on the keyboard. It seems very unpredictable. Sometimes it can takes minutes to get the volumes all the way down or up. The custom scale provided makes it a little bit better, but it is not nearly as good as it used to be.

For me this literally makes MP unusable in Vista... Please fix this! Thanks!

I agree with bleubleu - this more or less renders MP usless (especialy to my girlfriend!)!

But it's proberbly not enough to 'complain' in this thread - have anyone submitted it as a bug? (I couln't find anything in the bug-tracker!)

Heh, well I have since uninstalled Vista to fix all the errors I got and recently reinstalled, and yes it is happening again :)

I'm going to try those custom scales the response seems to be good, hopefully there is a fix in the next version.

Ok, my solution to this: Use the following volume custom scale

    0, 4095, 8191, 1638, 12287, 16383, 20479, 24575, 28671, 32767, 36863, 40959, 45055, 49151, 53247, 57343, 61439, 65535

Then it works. Other scales can get stuck, so I had to come up with this one, which suits me best. There are of course others that work.

My suspicion is that there are some sort of rounding issues, because with other scales Mediaportal reports a value as "lastknown" value which is not a part of my scale but one more or less. I suppose then it gets confused if the volume is suddenly at a value which is not part of the scale. But this is just a first suspicion, I didn't do any debugging.

One question regarding this scale, the 4th value is less than the 2nd and 3rd, is this right?

    Hi,

I thought this was odd too so I just guessed it should have been 10638 instead of 1638. I could have been completely wrong but it seemed to work either way when I tested. I have no real idea of what the numbers are ment to represent other than a sliding scale but this solution definately solves the issue.

    Thanks

    Vista Volume

vladyman, you are a legend! I've been f...ing around with the problem (Running Vista Ultimate x64) for ages, and has been frustrating the hell out of me. Your volume scale works a treat! The only question I have is how long did it take you to work out? Seriously? :)

    I'm using SVN 17930 but still can't use the default Classic or Custom scale. The default custom scale is not the same as vladyman's. It looks like this 0, 1039, 1234, 1467, 1744, 2072, 2463, 2927, 3479, 4135, 4914, 5841, 6942, 8250, 9806, 11654, 13851, 16462, 19565, 23253, 27636, 32845, 39037, 46395, 55141, 65535.

When starting from 0 I can go to 1039 and then 1234 but then no longer.

Perhaps it would be better to find the problem so all scales would work? :)
