Hi all,

I've seen some similar posts to this but can find nothing for sale. There is a Geniatech X8000T PCI card in Amazon but I'm unsure if it is DVB-T2 capable?

I know the Blackgold card is not compatible with UK HD?

Please can somebody help me.

I need PCI, PCI-E if it is a dual tuner.

Thanks in advance, J.

Hi J

On the Amazon site it says:

"Geniatech X8000T is a DVB-T + Analogue TV + FM 3-in-One TV/Radio card...."

This implies it is DVB-T only and not DVB-T2 (as I am sure a manufacturer would heavily promote DVB-T2 if the card had it). As far as I am aware there are no DVB-T2 PC cards available at present. Hauppauge was talking about producing a DVB-T2 USB tuner and I think it was due to appear before the World Cup, but there is no sign of it yet. Questions on the Hauppauge forum seem to indicate the staff there don't know when they will launch it.

The problem is that the UK is the only country using DVB-T2 at the moment whereas other the other DVB standards (DVB-T, DVB-S/S2, DVB-C) are used across Europe and in other parts of the world. This means there is less of an economic case for a manufacturer to produce a card that can only be fully used in the UK.

Blackgold missed a trick there I think. Give them a year or two and maybe they'll have something...

Just my tuppence worth: I have a feeling that the DVB-T2 parts would make a very expensive PC card at the moment. TV and set top box manifacturers can swallow the high cost of these in their high end sets, but vendors that are used to shipping £20-50 card aren't going to be happy if they need to charge £60+ for a card, no-one would buy them making the investement in the product pointless.

    This is purely congecture though.

Looking at DVB-T2 set top boxes you are probably looking at least £90 - £140 for a PC card at the moment (as I would guess they would be at least a similar price).

I'd love to find a card first, price wouldn't worry me too much. Has anybody found one?
But with regards to other posts I do see why manufacturers would choose not to make them if it's just the uk that have taken this format on.

Is there no way round this problem?

    Yep, wait ;)

Only settop boxes I've seen are £90+, I think pc card producers are waiting for them to take off and the price of the T2 chips to come down, before dipping their toes into the water, most likely take another big event like the next Olympics before anyone rushes out to buy these in bulk :(

hi all, has anybody managed to get hold of a pctv nano stick t2? It is supposed to have launched? Anybody seen where they are retailing? I heard they were going for a high £90 and only support 720i due to USB bandwidth limitations??
